I have seen several New Flyer, NABI, and Neoplan buses with roof-mounted HVAC systems. I have also seen a few RTSes with them as well. However, I have NEVER seen a Gillig or Orion bus with a roof-mounted HVAC. My question is: do they exist? I know that one advantage to using a roof-mounted HVAC is to have a rear window. However, this is more difficult to implement on hybrid buses and on low-floor CNG/LNG buses, as the batteries or CNG/LNG tanks must be mounted on the roof.

For New Flyer, a roof-mounted HVAC is offered as an option on the D30LF(R), D35LF(R), and the D40LF(R). The D60LF(R) features two roof-mounted HVACs, while the DE60LF(R) features both a roof mounted HVAC on the front section and a rear-mounted HVAC on the rear section.

In ABQ RIDE's fleet, the Neoplan AN440 CNG buses feature roof-mounted HVAC, as the CNG tanks are located under the bus. However, they do not feature rear windows. ABQ RIDE's only bus with a roof HVAC AND a rear window is their only diesel-powered SLF200, bus #436.

The Orion V does have a roof unit if there is a rear window, I think the VI does too.
