San Francisco To Try Double-Deck Bus On City's Routes
POSTED: 7:42 pm PST December 4, 2007
UPDATED: 7:48 pm PST December 4, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco will test a double-deck bus on the city's bus routes for nearly a month beginning next week.
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will assess the performance of double-deck buses on San Francisco's bus routes from Dec. 12 through Jan. 8. The bus will move from route to route and run six days a week.
Muni customers will ride free of charge and be asked to fill out surveys about their experience on the bus.
SFMTA said the vehicles may be considered for future use in San Francisco if the buses perform well during the trial.
SFMTA said the double-deck buses offer more seating, take up less space in bus yards and have similar maintenance costs and take up less space at bus stops than the 60-foot, articulated buses in service now.
Manufacturer Alexander Dennis loaned the bus to SFMTA for free. SFMTA will pay for fuel and evaluation costs.
Double-deck buses are used in Las Vegas, Hong Kong, London and other English cities. Double-deck tour buses are already used in San Francisco.
Muni customers can see which routes are part of the test at www.sfmta.com/double. |

Is this the same Enviro 500 that was tested by Community Transit? |

IMHO, I must say I have deep concerns about this design in US service. In a spare time activity, I surely must check what it is exactly that lawyers do...
Geez! A discarded slice of pizza on the stairs, and one has a shot at winning life's lottery!
