From the "IMAGES OF AMERICA" series....................

EXCELLENT collection of historic Buffalo streetcar and bus photos; MANY great photos of not only prewar buses, but, also "Oddballs", Old Looks, MACKS, and Fishbowls (NO "Dangerfields" are seen in these views))

There are photos of older-model MACKS, as well as the "New Looks'; Buffalo got its first "Jetsons"in 1960; interestingly, these buses had roller cirtains with both upper and lower case lettering.

Also. photos of YELLOW-built "Blunderbuses", which were converted to one man when the upper decks were enclosed; these buses were called "Sky Parlors".

Buffalo also, like Philadelphia, once operated a large number of "Nearside" streetcars.

Also, there are interesting photos of Old Looks and MACKS converted into non-revenue vehicles, afterretirement.

Buffalo hung on to their MACKS quite late in the game.....

Thi is an EXCELLENT nook, one that belongs in every transit library....

There is also a rare photo of the one-of-a-kind MACK "Bus Of Tomorrow", delivered in 1957, which, sadly, later met an untimely end......

Sounds like Buffalo was one of the few cities in the nation that did NOT acquire "Dangerfields." One wonders if they flirted with "Borough Bombers" or not.

One photo in the afiremtioned book showsa long lineipof "Oddba;;s" and "Pattons" (STRANGE bedfellows,indeed!) inside one of the garages.

Oddly, no "modern era" buses were depicted.

After retirement, a nimber of Old Looks were converted into "vault coaches", used to "pick up the coins" from the various garages...............

Though PCCs never ran in Buffalo........

In 1990, Buffalo purchaseed 12 PCCs from Cleveland, to be used on a proposed light rail extension.

Alas, this plan fell through, and the cars zwere shipped to Brooklyn for a "waterfront heritage trolley line".

Well. we all know what transpired, after the cars aarived in Brooklyn...........

A diverse fleet, indeed, bus-wise (GM/TWIN COACH/MACK) but, interestingly, no ACF-BRIILL coaches, nor WHITES.....
