NO RESPECT whatsoever for these bruised and battle-scarred "Dangerfields"........ Sad

Re. the first pic: Had that bus been " 'stoa" and the "5th Avenue and 63rd Street" were Manhattan rather than Brooklyn, it no doubt would have had some more respect. But it does seem about Brooklyn in those days, though . . .

GREAT photo; gives you an idea of how the "Dangerfield" fleet would have looked, equipped with batwings (what a sight at night!) Wink

Man, between the graffiti epidemic and the deferred maintenance at that time (man, does yours truly well recall those dark days)

I can recall riding on some "Eye-Are-Tee" trains where even the interior lights were painted over; the interiors were virtually in total darkness.

Then, too, the snagged, torn roller curtains, the overall grime and rust................a far, far cry from 1950, for certain............. Sad

Thankfully, the buses got off a lot easier; still, the inane, totally-insane scrawlings that adorned some buses made an otherwise good-looking bus looked trashed, unsightly, and neglected.........

Strangely, I approached the graffiti scars of the subway cars as akin to the members of the group Kiss in their makeup. Irrespective of it being desecration on the cars.

W.B.:

It would seem (oddly enough) that "stoa's" fleet seemed to be a bit less prone to the interests of the graffiti vandals, than those "Tee-Yay"/"Em-Tee-Yay" buses then running in Brooklyn.

Frightening (and sobering) that "da Bronx", Brooklyn, and, now, even Queens are becoming more and more ridden by violent, senseless crimes, with each passing day.

Recall, some months ago, the severe disruption of "W" line service, when so many trains had their windows kicked out?

And so the vicious cycle continues.....and intensifies............ Sad

Compare these photos of buses in Brooklyn and "da Bronx", back in the early 1980s.............

Roosevelt & Prince, 1978.

Here we have hard-workin' "Dangerfield" #5609*, still attired in classic "Tee-Yay" green; but notice, that this "Dangerfield" seems to have garnered at least some respect, at least when compared to its Brooklyn counterparts.

Looks like another warm day in May; note all windows are open........

*(According to "NEW YORK CITY TRANSIT BUSES" (Martin) #5609 was part of the 'Tee-Yay's second order of "Dangerfields", 190 in all, between 1965 and 1966)

Same year and location as previous photo:

Here we have "Dangerfield" fleetmate #5603, painted in two-tone blue, and looking pretty "respected"............

Still tastefully attired in classic "Tee-Yay" green, we see veteran "Jetson" Fishbowl #2017 at Queens Blvd & 78th Avenue, back in '77.............

Wearing the original 'Tee-Yay" green of earlier days, we see "Dangerfield" #5677 at the Queens Village garage, on a bright, chilly day, back in 1977..............

Merrick & 89th Avenue, 1981.

Not only, at this late date, does "Dangerfield" #5673 still proudly wear its original green paint, but it is also mercifully free of any unsightly graffiti........

And it has the "Tee-Yay" script above the standee windows, and not an "M" sticker in sight above the driver's window.

W.B.:

I had noticed the same thing, too.

For this veteran bus (at such a late date) to NOT have the "M" sticker affixed to its flanks PLUS still wearing the old "NYCTA" script over the windows tells me that this one one bus that was indeed overlooked when it came to repainting into the new two-tone blue, and when the new "M" stickers were being applied.

However, time was indeed fast running out for ol' #5673..............

"LEADING THE SUCCESSOR" (Livingston & Boerum, 1981)

This 1981 photo is indeed symbolic; here we have (still attired in classic "Tee-Yay" green) "Jetson" #2067, closely followed by a shiny new "Are-Tee-Es".

Indeed, the torch was about to be passed...............

The manner in which this image was scanned practically screams "lo-res" and very pixelly, but I seem to think this "Torpedo" way behind had a 'PA' number designation for that bus.

But . . . changing of the guard, indeed.

W.B.:

Agreed; that photo was, indeed, NOT of the best quality.....not by a long shot.

But, again, it was quite a symbolic image, especially that the veteran "Jetson" was still wearing its original "Tee-Yay" green, from 20-odd years back...............
