In the July 2007 issue of the NYERA Bulletin, columnist Philip Craig wrote that on May 15, 2007, an NJ Superior Court judge rejected a claim made by DeCamp Bus Lines against NJ Transit, alleging that NJ Transit illegally had "seized" DeCamp's ridership when it began operating Midtown Direct service from Montclair NJ to NY-Penn Station.
DeCamp had claimed that three of their routes (33, 66, and 8Cool were very badly hurt by the new one-seat rail ride into Midtown.
One of the key issues that worked against DeCamp's case is that for many years DeCamp had had ample opportunity to oppose formally the construction of the Montclair Connection (first announced by the State of NJ back in 1979), but apparently they never chose to do so until after the connection had opened.
