W.B.:
The last SURFACE buses disappeared while the Bronx 3rd Avenue El was still in operation, an aging holdover from another age.
BTW: Can you decipher what model GM was that bus? ( I could only make out it had square windows)....

....and now.....a decade into the future*.......

*Note that MaBSTOA Fishbowl #6456 is signed "SPECIAL"; the soon-to-be-razed 3rd Avenue El columns remain, for a time, silent reminders of another age.
Also, what SURFACE/MaBSTOA route plied this route? (what depot were these buses based out of?)

......meanwhile, back in 1965, the scene was QUITE a bit cheerier, along the old El (Forham Rd)......

If 1964, I'm venturing TDH-4507 . . . likely transferred from FACCo . . . those were the last "square window" buses. |

W.B.:
Thanks for the info; according to the Ogden FACCo book, the 4507's dated back to 1946, so that bus would have been 18 years old in 1964.
That old veteran certainly must have racked up QUITE a bit of mileage, during those 18 years!
Here, in my area of "Joisey", square-window Old Looks would continue to be commonplace, until they began to vanish around late 1966/1967.
These old workhorses were TANKS!

183rd & 3rd, 1973.
Note the large sign mounted on the underside of the El structure:
"BUSES AND RIGHT TURNS ONLY"

Tremont Avenue, 1973.
The Fishbowl seen in the murky shadows beneath the El still sports the 1960's green scheme and elegant "MaBSTOA" script above the windows......

In this moody "'neath the El" scene from 1973, we see a Fishbowl attired in the new "Em-Tee-Yay" two-tone blue........

Here's a TARS-era shot at 3rd Avenue and 125th St.; note the (the timeless "arrow and circle" variety) "BUS STOP" sign on the right......
