Curious as to what "Noo Yawk" baseball season would coincide with the last "seasons" for ex-SURFACE and ex-FACCo/FACL buses to be operating-----"NYO"

Let's see . . . the last season where FACL and ST themselves were still in operation was 1961.
The last where the most dilapidated (meaning, square-windowed) of the Surface "Sherman" fleet were still running was as 1963 was unfolding.
The last where the last NYCO buses produced (meaning, up to 1950) were still up and running would have been 1966. Also the last of the ST "Pattons" (which were all put to pasture before the start of the 1967 season).
The last where the last of the "Shermans" with the front sign boxes were still in service would have been 1970.
And it was in the middle of the 1973 season that the last of the FACL/ST "Jetsons" were retired.

WB: Thanks! EXACTLY what I wanted to know! Wink So-----the ex-FACL/ST "Jetsons" were gone by 1973------too bad they were not allowed to last as long as the oldest "square windows" and "Pattons"; and yet-there are pics of a few "Jetsons" (still in "Tee-Yay" green) at nycsubwayorg-which were still running circa-1980 (I guess these were the "Tee-Yay" buses)-------"NYO"

.....one week from today (the 28th) the Amazins' will be playing their home opener at CitiField (should be still playing at Shea!)

Seems that the Mets have had a pretty decent "pre-season" so far; today they clobbered their opponents while the Yankees lost (again)

Could this be a preview of what the 2024 season will be like?

Who knows?

We're all hoping that this season will be a BIG improvement over the lackluster, overall poor performances by both the Mets and the Yankees last season.

We can only hope.............

Oh, they'd be "Tee-Yay" all right - the last " 'stoa" buses to bear that shade of green would have been on the roads in 1978, on the M101 and M102 lines.

Haven't we been here before? Rolling Eyes

Yesterday was the Mets home opener; they LOST yesterday's game and today's as well. Sad

A harbinger of the season to come?

Will the Yankees have a better season than 2023, or will they will be keeping company with the Amazins' in another season of multiple losses?

We can only wait and hope, and see what transpires for the "Noo Yawk" teams..........

Last night (as reported) the Mets lost (by one point) their second game in a row; the Yankees had been losing but pulled a comeback and won their game.

Now, are the Mets already in stride for a dismal 2024 season?

Or, will they stage a comeback? (sure as heck won't see the likes of 1969 again)

And, will the Yankees pull off a memorable season this year, or will they eventually "head south", like last year, with multiple losses?

Your's Truly recalls last year's beyond mediocre and shameless "Noo Yawk" season........let's hope we won't have a repeat of 2023............ Sad

In some ways, the "talent" in today's baseball teams (overpaid and increasingly fragile) seem a metaphor for the state of both mass and rapid transit in terms of the long-term longevity of its current rolling stock, no? (With the "Eye-Are-Tee," the "old guard" is now increasingly represented by the R-62's; on the "Eye-En-Dee" and "Bee-Em-Tee," the oldest would be the R-46's and the next-to-oldest the R-68's a.k.a. "Hippos." What passes for buses today is another story.)

W.B.

Agreed 100%.

With baseball, I think the major issue is an unhealthy combonation of inept management and equally-inept grossly overpaid players, who, sad to say (regardless of team) are simply NOT of the same legendary calibre as the larger-than-life players of decades past.

With truly astronomical (and obscene) salaries, the players should at least FEEL motivation to play well for the fans, who already have paid a fortune just to see the game in person.

Bus-wise, as you and I both know, modern bus longevity (well, heck, they are only IMPOSTORS of buses) are like to today's pro-athletes; EXPENSIVE to operate and nothing to 'fuel the intensity" of the hobby/pastime.

As to subway cars, recall, back in the day, when "hi tech" trains like the R-44/46/68 were considerd "state of the art", and the "old gaurd" still well-represented by classic SMEE rolling stock?

Then, too, today's Yankee Stadium is naught but a half-hearted replica of the original, fabled "House That Ruth Built", and the hallowed Shea (like the "Bluebirds"/"Redbirds" themselves) has vanished down the echoing corridors of time.

Just tain't the same...............

Here we go again.............

The Mets have already lost ALL three of their first 2024 season games, totally swept away.

The Yankees, on the other hand, have been on a decent "early on" winning streak.

1010 WINS also mentioned that the Amazins' new manager had been suspended; they also described this weekend as "a long weekend for Mets fans."

In fact, on WINS yesterday, a reporter was taking to a Mets fan at CitiField; this fan said that ".....while true Mets fans always pledge their loyalty to their team, a Mets fan HAS to have a VERY thick skin......"

Believe me, I saw the meaning of this firsthand while I was still working down on Wall Street.

Looks like a "rinse and repeat" season for the Mets is now well underway.

Sad, actually...........

The "Bronx Bombers" have one their last seven games, while the Amazin' Mets have lost all three of the 2024 seasons first games.

NOT promising at all.

Then again, with baseball, you never know.

Still, pretty sad, and only mildly amusing......... Sad Razz

Beyond embarrasing..............

The Mets just lost AGAIN (5-zip) Sad

They've lost EVERY game they've played since Opening Day on Friday(!!)

Even the most die-hard and dedicated of Mets fans are getting pretty much disgusted of this already inept and totally-clueless 2024 season. Sad

For the astronomical salaries these"players" (I'm using the term "players" quite loosely here) make, you'd think they'd at least be motivated to play a half-way decent game.......... Razz

The Mets's ongoing ineptness (players and management) is even more infuriating when you realize that the team has the HIGHEST payroll in baseball.Evil or Very Mad

Right now, perhaps firing both present management AND players, and starting from scratch with all new faces MIGHT just be the ticket.

Total and complete fantasy, I know, but still, it's all pretty dang pathetic, no matter how you look at it...... Razz

Meanwhile, the Yankess have been enjoying a lengthy winning streak as of late (perhaps we should start calling the Mets, "The Bombers") Razz Rolling Eyes

Well, ONE plus to come out of all this rain.....

The Mets were (mercifully) rained out this evening, and spared further humiliation.......at least for one night............... Confused

In much the same way that with today's "buses," that very word could be used just as loosely.
