The seldom-discussed Conroy "SKYMONSTER" (aptly named!); this hulking cargo aircraft, indeed, has the look of a classic military transport.......

Another "Military MONSTER"(!!!!)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A400M_Atlas
The props themselves ("SLICE 'N DICE"!) are QUITE fearsome!!!!!!!!
This is another fascinating "in depth" aircraft data page with a number of great photos, etc......... |

When the first 707's began flying in the late 1960's, civil airlines ushered in the "Jet Age" in a HUGE way:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Age
(too, remember that the first commercial jet, the De Havilland "COMET"*, had been grounded for some time when the first 707's began flying, due to a number of serious issues; military jets were already becoming commonplace; recall the early "SABRE" jets that saw action in Korea).......
*The "COMET" first flew in 1951. |

The "SABRE"*.........
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_F-86_Sabre
*The last active SABRE jets were Bolivian, and retired in 1994.
(Bolivia, you will recall, into the 1980's, flew many examples of classic props, in both passenger and cargo services; a few B-17's were, at the time, still hauling cargo there) |

Long before the SST competition, was this proposal from Convair...

Imagine if they actually built one....
Imagine what the fares would have been... |

It never ceases to amaze me at how the "supersonic" era of airliners faded away with little more than a blink of an eye; indeed, they seemed to represent THE future of air travel (TWA was also to have ordered the "Rodan")
Interestingly, the Soviet Union, still involved with the Cold War, had a lot of international prestige resting on their Tupolev TU-144 Supersonic Transport. They were also the first.......they beat the West (first flight 1968).
Their first TU-144 flew mail from Moscow to Alma Ata, and carried passengers briefly, from December, 1997, through June, 1978. Serious vibration and engine fuel-control doomed this type........

It might be just me, but, it would seem that, except, perhaps, among the truly "die hard" civil aircraft enthusiasts, "SST-types are not discussed all that much.
Sad, as these highly-distinctive aircraft indeed have an an important part in aviation history, and are, also highly-fascinating.........

Imagine flying from JFK to Heathrow, in less time then it takes the 'A' Train to get from Washington Heights to Far Rockaway? |

Or, flying to London in less than time than it takes to ride an NJT bus from the PABT to Fort Lee......(!!)
