As I had mentioned previously in this thread (when discussing the former "San Diego Trolley" articulated units that were sold for further service in South America) during WW2, a number of second-hand cars from the East were sold to San Diego, to handle the heavy wartime traffic; some of these cars were purchased from TARS.

Here, an elderly deck-rood TARS car is seen running in San Diego, a long, long way from home rails........

In the early 1950's, TCRT sold its still practically new PCC's at "bargain basement" prices when street railway operation ended; 30 cars were purchased by PSNJ for service in the Newark City Subway, while others were sold to Mexico City.

Here, a PCC bound for its new life in Mexico City, is seen ready to be shipped south-of-the-border.........

Retired US streetcars and trolleybuses did not always end their days in Mexico or South America (or the scrap yard)......

A group of ex-Los Angeles PCC's were shipped over to Egypt, where they operated for years in Cairo; ex-Washington DC PCC's could also be found in Spain and in Sarajevo.

A group of "modern" TARS cars ran for years in Vienna, Austria.

Then, too, a number of ex-Atlanta streetcars were shipped over to Korea, where they operated for a number of years more (one such car survives today up at Shore Line).........
