Japanese tin litho "Hounds"..........

As I've already recounted elsewhere in the past, most were "SCENICRUISERS"; some of these were almost scale models, and quite authentic.

Others were fairly accurate replicas, while others were only loosely based on the prototype.

Size-wise, they ranged from three-inch long toys, to massive replicas close to 2" in length!

One HUGE "Hound" I have was obviously based on a 4104, lettered for "PENNSYLVANIA GREYHOUND".

Still others were, to say the least, QUITE imaginative (like something seen in a 1960 issue of "POPULAR SCIENCE"! Shocked

There were many variations based on the 4104; again, some were pretty accurate, others were more or less "free lance"; ditto the 4106.

One of the rarest tin itho hounds I have is one of the last Japanese tin friction "GREYHOUND" buses made; this rare toy is quite authentic, replicating the hulking "MC-6", in its original livery.

These are getting more and more rare, with each passing year; I sure value mine! Wink

"HOUND CAMEO" (1972)

Man, you can almost FEEL the strong nostalgic aura in this timeless, long-ago scene, just outside the "Port-of-Authority"........... Wink

Back in the early 1980s, when I often knew this area on a twice-daily basis, I never thought that, one day, forty-odd years later, that I would look back with fond nostalgia.

And check out that outbound "7" up above on the helix, just out of the "Port".............. Wink

And here's another timeless "Hound" cameo from 1981 (taken at the Lincoln Tunnel helix)............ Wink

Not only does this photo contain many elements of nostalgia, it also serves to remind us of the days when "DE CAMP" still operated extensive commuter services...........

You know it!

For years, I rode suburban Fishbowls (and assorted 4104s/4106s!) through this location twice a day, Monday-Friday! Wink

And, when I was just a lad, you STILL had a number of Old Looks, MACKS, and ACF-BRILLS, adding to the colorful diversity! Very Happy

Man, what a show! Very Happy

Regarding the MCI in suburban operations........

I wonder just how many of today's bus enthusiasts see the "MCI" in the same light as the Old Looks and Fishbowls that also once ran so reliably in commuter service, for so many years.

Think about it.......

For decades, GM-built buses were the integral backbone of the now-defunct New Jersey suburban operator's fleets; today, the big "MCI" coaches (which I've dubbed "Jersey Hounds"!) have taken their place, and, like their GM ancestors, themselves are now the backbone of the NJT commuter fleet.

As was the case with the old companies of years ago, one modern bus make indeed has become "The Kings Of The Road", just as the GM buses of several decades ago......clearly, MCI knows its stuff! Wink

Speaking of MCIs.........

Go to youtube, fellows, and do a search for "NJT MCID4500CT 21253" and see a TRULY MAGNIFICENT SIGHT,,,,,,,,an MCO "wrapped" for PSNJ.....the distinctive PSNJ dash wings are truly a work of art!!!!! Very Happy

(there are also a number of great online photos as well!)

Sure would not mind seeing MCIs "wrapped" for ORANGE & BLACK, MANHATTAN LINES, and RED & TAN!!!! Wink

GREAT JOB, NJT! Very Happy

Cannot believe it is now roughly FORTY YEARS since I last rode (or observed!) a 4106! Shocked

Last I rode was an ex-"INTERCITY" coach, running on NJT's (ex-"ORANGE & BLACK") rush-hour "RIVER ROAD EXPRESS".

Nowadays, I might be a gray-haired fellow now nearing 70, but at least I got GREAT memories of CLASSIC buses!! Wink

ALWAYS had a special place in my heart for the 4104 and 4106! Very Happy
