All:

See:

https://www.volvobuses.com/en/news-stories/press-releases/2023/dec/prevost-secures-its-largest-ever-coach-order.html

I was QUITE surprised, to say the very least, to see that other bus enthusiasts have also been pondering over there being a possible "connection" between newly-installed Pope Leo (the former Fr. Robert Prevost) and a certain Canadian bus builder....and here I thought I was the ONLY one thinking this one over! Wink

Someone on the BusChat forum said he was breathing a sigh of relief that the new Pope's birth surname wasn't Van Hool or Gillig.

W.B.:

I had caught that, also; also be glad that the Pontiff's former name (as a priest) wasn't "VOLVO"! Wink

All kidding aside, I've always wondered why "En-Jay-Tee" never purchased PREVOST coaches.

"En-Jay-Tee" has been loyal and steady MCI customers since the 1980s, and, about the only time they "broke with tradition" was when they purchased a group of EAGLE coaches, which were not in the fleet all that long.

ACADEMY, on the hand, has been a strong PREVOST customer for many years now.......

Interesting note...........

PACE bus route #348 runs along Indiana Avenue, less than a block from Pope Leo's family home on E. 148th Place.

This company was founded in 1983, and re-branded PACE in 1984......

Also.............

At one time, "South Suburban SafeWay Lines" rostered 5305s and 5105s; the 5105s (28 in all) were purchased from Denver Tramways.

A color photo of one of these good-looking buses is seen in "OLD LOOK BUSES" (William A. Luke); the bus shown has a single door, standee windows, and the old-style a/c unit with the boxy duct running along the roof.

Orange & Black rostered similar buses..........

Note that the bus depicted on the front of this "SOUTH SUBURBAN SAFEWAY LINES" tt from 1954 depicts one of the earliest YELLOW Old Looks (a TD-4001 w/flat windshields)............
