Back in the "Noo Yawk" area, TRIBORO was another company that once rostered the tough-looking (yet stylishly handsome) WHITE 798.
Like the MACKS, these buses seemed to have a bit of an arrogant "swagger" to them, as they rumbled and snorted along the streets (at least, that's how it always seemed to me!)

I noticed from old pics that both FACCo and NYCO had a few Whites on the road starting in the late 1930's, alongside the Yellows which were their usual fleet.

W.B.:
Pictures of FACCo. WHITES are virtually non-existent.
In fact, I never knew that company even operated them until I first read the Ogden book.
There are but two photos of postwar WHITES in the book, which later were sold to Memphis in 1960............

Hmm. Must've been as rare as their subsequent Fishbowls, judging from how Ogden framed his book . . .

Agreed 100%!
According to Ogden, FACCo. rostered five WHITE 1150's, used on the Jackson Heights line.
There were WHITE 798's (#'s 600-634) on Staten Island (originally, these buses operated for ISLE TRANSPORTATION CORPORATION, a short-lived outfit that took over STATEN ISLAND COACH)
In the City fleet, these buses remained on Staten Island until they were retired......

The "World's Greatest Interurban", the PACIFIC ELECTRIC, also operated a large number of busesfrom several builders, including YELLOW, GM, and WHITE.
In the background of this classic 1940's PE photo, we see a sharp-looking WHITE 798 (looking particularly smart with those stylish PE wings!) as well as a FORD, wearing NCL's "fruit salad" colors...........

MaBSTOA 15:
Thanks for taking the time to post this in-depth detailed (and most informative) listing; NORTH HUDSON BOULEVARD LINES (which ran right by our old Union City apartment house when I was growing up) also rostered some WHITES; there were 798's and, if I'm correct with the model, 1144's)
Note, also, DE CAMP also operated WHITE 798's in the late 1950's; these buses were originally operated by the long-defunct "ATLANTIC TRANSPORTATION" ( the "GARDEN STATE LINES") when DE CAMP took over the Nutley-New York line (Route #32)
This line was sold to DE CAMP in 1953, and with this new route came to the stylish DE CAMP fleet both WHITE 798's and ACF-BRILL C-44's (DE CAMP already was operating BRILLS at this time).......

Footnote on WHITES in general.......
Recall, also, the air-conditioned WHITES that ran in Dallas into the 1960's; I've seen several photos of these unusual and distinctive buses (one of these bus is seen next to JFK's open limo on that fateful day in 1963, just minutes before those fatal shots were fired) I think these photos might have been posted somewhere on this board awhile ago, but am not sure.
Into the 1960's, the CTA also operated WHITE 798's (these buses were originally CSL coaches)
KEY SYSTEM also operated WHITE 798's, as did PE and MUNI (a few photos are included in this topic, which I posted links to recently)
Washington, DC, was another city which used WHITES as part of their fleet.
Sadly, few WHITES survive today......

The bus in the JFK photo is not a White but a Southern Coach with aftermarket a/c.
The second photo is of a Dallas Transit White model 1144

Just when I thought it was safe to say that you could not POSSIBLY outdo yourself, you prove me WRONG (again!!!!)
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, also, for the correction regarding the bus in the JFK picture!
Those INTER-CITY buses....HOLY SMOKES, what great memories they brought back!!!!
I well remember WHITES, ACF-BRILLS, and Old Looks (INTER-CITY) running on the #97 JSQ-PATERSON line, which, like the NHBL buses, which also ran by our old union City apartment house, well over 50 years ago.
And, yes, Mom and I rode them!
Also, love the color photo of the DC TRANSIT bus; a good wash would have made that old workhorse look right sharp again!
THANK YOU, once again, for taking the time to share these AWESOME old bus photos............

Just curious......
Do any RTS buses still reside on MTA property, or have all been since been removed?
I personally wish that at least a few would be spared the torch (heading for retirement at some museum), but, given the way things usually go these days, I'm not all that optimistic.....
