Sutphin Boulevard, six years before we rang in 1969 (the snow and ice indeed look most refreshing, after the past several days of heat and high humidity!)........

1969 was already 12 years in the past when this nostalgic scene was snapped at Hunts Point Ave. & Bruckner Boulevard in 1981.

A lot of nostalgia in this scene

*Note the old building housing several stores on the right; until 1937, this was a NYW&B station.....

In 1957, 12 years before the year 1969, Old Looks and elderly open-gate elevated cars co-existed together........for the time being (the last open-gate cars were replaced with refurbished "Q" cars in 1958)......and "Ol' Myrtle" herself was closed down in 1969.........

This photo (circa 1969) was taken from the approximate location of the previous photo, taken in 1957 (Navy St.)

Here, the venerable BMT gate cars have been replaced by "Q" cars, and we now see a Fishbowl beneath the "Myrt", instead of an Old Look..........

*And, in 1969, Shea Stadium (RIP) was still the hallowed home of the "Amazin Mets"........

1969 was only last year when these classic MaBSTOA workhorses were caught on camera in 1970.........

It's 1971, and 1969 is now but a memory.

This scene (with much nostalgic, vintage store signage) was snapped at Tremont Avenue and Boston Rd.

Note that Flex #4676 has lost the "MaBSTOA" script over the windows, and now sports an MTA insignia; the bus just behind, however, still wears its original "MaBSTOA" script........

Had one been born in 1969, they would have been but four years old when this timeless MaBSTOA "group shot" was caught on camera.

Note that all the buses seen here have been repainted into the new MTA two-tone blue......

The 1969 Flx's 4000-4202 and 4600-4727 were delivered without the NYCTA and MABSTOA srcript above the windows. It will be 50 years this December since the their deliveries arrived.

Thanks for this info; to me, it STILL seems strange to see a photo of a MaBSTOA bus without its familiar, trademark script over the windows.

To me, it just seemed to give the buses a little added touch of "class"! Very Happy

Ahhh, it's all so long ago, now.....

Back in 1969, the forlorn, rusting supports seen here supported the elevated structure that carried trains on the remaining section of the Third Avenue El.

In 1974 (a year after the El was closed), a photographer snapped #4892 threading its way through the still standing, now redundant elevated columns (Webster & Bedford)......

1969 was in the past, and we were now three years into the 70's when this melancholy seen was snapped.

Neither the Flex.....or the original "House That Ruth Built".....survive today.

The Yankee's lineup for '73, as I type these words, have long since retired from the bullpen.....or have (sadly) since passed on.

Lost New York, for certain......

As a "sidenote" to my previous post........

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_New_York_Yankees_season

* It is also interesting to note that, during the extensive 1974-1975 renovation of the "old" Yankee Stadium, the illustrious "Bronx Bombers" shared Shea Stadium with "The Amazins"....... Wink

"NYO"

** I am also guessing that the stadium renovations during those years also must have impacted subway/bus patronage.......

Where old buses go to live out their days . . . Sad and to think those examples once plied such Surface Transit routes as M-104 and M-106, back when they arrived in November 1960. (Not to mention the entire FACL / ST fleet, in general.)

The Bx-49 line, which didn't even get typed up in the description accompanying the pic.
