Just saw this on EYEWITNESS NEWS (ABC-7)

A deranged man (literally) attacked am M-15 bus at 14th & 2nd; he climbed up on the front of the bus and actually started attacking the bus itself with his knife.

The bus driver and the police (thankfully) apprehended this deranged individual.

This had to be a terrifying scene for any and all involved; kudos to the bus driver and New York's Finest.....

......senseless, mindless acts of violence these days involving both buses and subways are becoming far too frequent.

I have not ridden a bus in over three years (and, before that, four years) and have not ridden the subway (or PATH) since I retired in early 2003.

Though I greatly miss the "good old days" of riding transit to my heart's content, just for the fun of it (and am most grateful for those memories) I am also grateful that, these days, I have no reason to use any sort of mass transit, either in New York or here in New Jersey.

When I think back to my childhood of the early and mid-1960's, and how frequently my mother and I rode buses (and trains) at virtually any time of day or night, and never felt even the slightest bit uneasy, I feel as though I grew up a thousand years ago, on some far-off planet in another galaxy.

This is all the more reason why I have such tremendous respect for those transit workers who take their jobs seriously, and (literally) put their life on the line each working day, serving the riding public.

Make no mistake, it takes a tremendous amount of guts to work in transit today......
