.....quite a bit of wasted space on #7311's roller curtain while displaying that miniscule "Special" reading........

But notice, the 23rd Street crosstown route is designated 'M15' on the front, but 'M26' on the side - that side roll sign was printed three months before the massive route renumberings of July 1.

Proof that, after Avenue B & East Broadway threw in the towel in 1980, M9 (and M8 Grand Street) became MaBSTOA routes; both routes were assigned out of Hudson depot at Pier 57 (as was #7327 with the 'vanilla dip' paint scheme which had been a mainstay of that garage since it was first delivered in early '74).

W.B.:

I had noticed the different sign readings, but was not aware of the upcoming route renumberings; thanks for sharing this info! Wink

And from within the first order of Flx 53102-6-1's, this one for the 'Tee-Yay' - the first bus of that lot, #7000, plying the M15 route in 1978 at Second Avenue and 126th Street (with a 1963 'TA Green' bus behind it, and a 1977 Flx bus farther behind) . . .

W.B.:

Regarding Flexies.......

AFAIK, there were no companies in "Noo Yawk" that operated only Flexies; fleets seemed to be quite diverse, with GMC's leading the pack, followed by Flexies, and later, AM GENERAL, GRUMMANS, and, of course, the RTS.

Funny, with the RTS, I seldom think of connecting the original RTS with GM, even though, of course, they were built by the company.

I think its because that the RTS looked so different from any of the other buses (especially in the "Em-Tee-Ay" fleet), that (at least to Your's Truly) they seemed to be a "breed unto themselves".......

Just a personal observation, here......

IMHO, the Flex New Look had a more "boxy" look to it than the GM Fishbowl; the GM's seemed to have a more "flowing" streamlined look to them, whereas the Flexies reminded me a bit of the "tough guy" persona I so associated with MACKS.

The Flex New Looks, to me, seemed to be simply a "tough, no nonsense" bus that simply got the job done...and they did just that for MANY a year! Wink
