An interior view; to so many of us, it was just the interior of just another bus we rode........back in the days when such the RTS still dominated the fleet......

Millennium Transit Services was the last company to manufacture the RTS. I am using an iPad here at work and cannot cut and past that well with the IPad.
Enter RTS bus or MTS in a search engine. You should get some hits. The Millennium site is still up and Wiki has a good page regarding the RTS. It goes from GM to Millennium. |

Thanks for the heads-up......much appreciated!
How fast the years rush by; it seems like only yesterday that I regarded the RTS as a "new" bus (to me, A Fishbowl or an Old Look was truly "OLD")
Today, the RTS is poised to vanish down the echoing halls of history, just as was the case with the buses before it.
Though I did not fully appreciate them until their later years, I've come to like them....and still lament that is now a number of years since they vanished from my area of New Jersey.
I still remember when "HOT WHEELS" offered slope-back RTS miniatures........

I would say of my preferences, I leaned towards the 1982 set of RTS's with electronic 'flip' destination signs by Gulton's Luminator Division, as on TA buses PA1659 - PA1833 and MaBSTOA buses PA2580 - PA2704 (type T8J-204). (The type of sign as on the Grummans, I.I.N.M., were on PA1634 - PA1658, the last of the T8W-204 batch built in '81.) Then, the 1984 set 3400 - 3799 with the next generation of Luminator signs.
I noticed so far the '80's pics were of the T8W-204 batch with TransDot electronic signs (MaBSTOA 2201 - PA2579 and TA 1201 - PA1633).
A few Queens 1982 RTS's had malfunctioning signs in which they displayed all lower case characters rather than capital letters. That's how I learnt of their shape prior to the Rollsign Gallery website. |

W.B.:
Some great RTS trivia you shared here!
When I first started noticing the new RTS buses in the early 80's, I remembering thinking how "futuristic" they looked; at that time, to me, anyway, it did not seem that a city bus could look any more futuristic (man, was I off!)
NJT, it seems, was not at all enamored with the RTS for many years; if even a demo operated for NJT, it would be news to me.
NJT did take deliveries of later model RTS's about 1997; to me, they were not in service all that long.
If I remember correctly, NJT's RTS fleet began disappearing about the same time the NABI coaches were coming on line, and replacing the Flex METROS.
The "Joisey" RTS coaches I knew best were those ACADEMY used on the #22 HILLSIDE and the rush-hour only BOULEVARD EAST line (I recall riding on an ex-MTA RTS on the #22, back around 1999/2000)........
