In one of the biggest shuffles in route numbering since the 1974 changes to several Manhattan and some Bronx routes, several Bronx routes are overhauled thus (old numbers in italics, new numbers in bold):
- Bx4 Jerome-Bainbridge - renumbered Bx34
- Bx9 Eastchester Road - renumbered Bx31
- Bx13 Castle Hill Avenue - renumbered Bx22
- Bx15 Gun Hill Road - renumbered Bx28
- Bx17 Allerton Avenue/Co-Op City - renumbered Bx26
- Bx20 Bronx Park-Van Cortlandt Park - renumbered Bx9
- Bx22 Country Club-Spencer Estates - renumbered Bx14
- Bx25 Morris Avenue - renumbered Bx32
- Bx26 Boston Road-Morris Park Avenue - renumbered Bx21
(this is just one day after the prior Bx21, the Bronx-Astoria leg of bus service over the Triborough Bridge, is discontinued due to low ridership)
- Bx28 Williamsbridge - renumbered Bx39
- Bx29 Willis Avenue - renumbered Bx15
- Bx34 163rd Street Crosstown - renumbered Bx6
- Bx37 Ogden Avenue - renumbered Bx13
- Bx38 University Avenue - renumbered Bx3
- Bx42 Westchester Avenue - renumbered Bx4
As well, new routes are created by combining, modifying or extending already existing ones:
- Bx16 (combination of Bx14, Bx16 and Bx19)
- Bx17 (extension of Bx3)
- Bx19 (combination of Bx30 and Bx31)
- Bx30 (extension of Bx6)
