I recently viewed the film "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter" with Tony Randall and Jayne Mansfield. Besides these two stars two other stars, rarely seen in movies, appeared in the background.

One was a White bus manufactured for the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) as a mobile camera production platform. The one pictured below was actually one of three models 1144-TV built for NBC.

The other rarely seen bus was a Fifth Avenue Coach Mack model C-50DT on route 15, Jackson Heights heading south on Fifth Avenue. You can see the bus weaving in and out of traffic on the rear projection screen between Randall and Mansfield. On the destination sign you can see the destination "25 St."

What about that DeSoto taxi?!

Obviously it was before those C-50DT's were reassigned by Fifth Avenue Coach Lines to their recently-acquired Surface Transit subsidiary . . .

GREAT PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

As to the NBC bus in the first photo, I have in my collection a 1950's tin friction "NBC TELEVISION" mobile camera toy bus.

On the roof it has two TV cameras, each one lettered: "WNBT"/"WRCA".

The style of lettering is the same used on the NBC bus in the film.

I also have a larger tin friction bus from that time, this one patterned somewhat after a Flxible Clipper; it has an antenna that can swing up and down, and is lettered:

"RCA TELECAST STATION NEWS SERVICE BUS".

Another larger, more elaborate tin "TV BUS" was made in the early 60's; this was another NBC vehicle, but had a small projector inside (this was battery powered toy) that actually showed a short film on a small screen on the one side of the bus!

I only wish I had this great piece in my collection today; examples are not that common and command VERY high prices if one is found for sale.

Maybe some day........
