All:

Just curious as to how many companies operate direct NYC-Atlantic City bus service.

I know such buses would have been quite popular during the "boom era" of casinos; today, with AC in the doldrums, and the casinos themselves now either closed or no longer operating at full tilt, I'm curious just how much impact this has had on the buses.

Thanks.....

That would probably be tough to answer...there are so many small ccompanies picking up in various spots around the city to possibly get an accurate count...
If you are just considering the PABT, there's NJT, Greyhound, and Academy...

traildriver:

Thanks........that at least gives me a little bit of a "heads up"! Wink

Back in the 1990's, my late brother used to run bus charters from our town down to AC on several Sundays throughout the year; I believe we had an ACADEMY bus on at least a few of these runs)

We used to have bingo and trivia games on board, and always got vouchers for $20 in quarters (for the slots) and often, a food voucher as well.

For some strange reason, I never took any bus pictures....go figure! Sad

I DO remember the old PRSL terminal being used as a municipal bus terminal; I had wanted to take some photos, but the area did not seem too conducive to taking photos (sadly, that historic and grand structure is no more) Sad

I remember a lot of NJT Metros, back then, at that location, viewing from my bus window.

I do remember the AC bus terminal, which seemed to be hopping no matter what time we headed back home.

I used to dress like Frank Sinatra (a la "Rat Pack"-era) on these AC excursions, and, in fact, was asked by several folks if I were playing Frank in a "Rat Pack" show that was then playing (QUITE flattering, to say the least, and yes, I DID see the show, just two weeks after "Ol' Blue Eyes" passed away)

The last AC Sunday excursion was in 1998; due to declining health, my brother no longer ran any more AC charters......they sure were a LOT of fun while they lasted!

Getting back to the buses, as I said, from what I can remember, the bus business was really in full swing back then, when the casinos were still running full tilt.

Where do the years go?? Sad

"Schoo-beee-doo-bee-doo"............. Wink

.......am just curious as to just what "magic tricks" our good friend and resident "Highly Adept Miracle Worker" MaBSTOA 15 might be able to pull out of his seemingly bottomless "magic hat" for this topic (hint, hint!)....... Wink

I'm not very familiar with bus operations in New Jersey as I am with New York City buses, but I hope the following scenes address some of the comments in regards to Atlantic City made on this post by my fellow enthusiasts.

What I remember and like the most of Jersey buses were the wide variety of makes and models as well as operators in the area directly across from Manhattan.

I have an old VHS tape (remember them? Hell, I even had a Betamax!!) by Roger Arcara entitled Metro NY-NJ Area Bus Operations 1930s-1970s".
Great shots of the now defunct Jersey operators.

#B331 is a GM TDM-3207
#A335 is a GM TDH-4008
#F566 is a GM TDM-4509

BTW, no pressure, no pressure at all!

More Public Service to Atlantic City...

#J623... is a GM TDM-4515
#P796... is a GM SDM-5301
#7038... is a GM S8M-5303A

BTW, the side destination sign on P796 says route "107 Atlantic City"; while the front destination sign says "107 New York via Newark Airport"

And if you were staying in the Mayflower Hotel, Washington D.C. you could ride the Congressional Deluxe Parlor Car service to Atlantic City aboard a double-deckere Fageol "Safety Coach"

HOLY CRANKCASE!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked

YET AGAIN, you have MORE than OUTDONE yourself.......man, these old photos REALLY rock big time!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked

Thanks for taking the time to share with us here!! Very Happy

Man, do those old PSNJ buses bring back a busload of great old memories; in my area of northeastern New Jersey, these handsome vehicles were once as commonplace as cracks in the sidewalk!! (and operating for any of a number of outfits!)

Even through the 70's, there was still a tremendous wealth to be savored and enjoyed, bus-wise.....ahhhh, the memories!!! Very Happy
