Fellows:

The Hollywood of yesteryear......dashing, handsome stars.......gorgeous, stunning starlets.......the Brown Derby......Grauman's Chinese Theater........and, of course...BUSES (and Red Cars and Yellow Cars.....AND, trolley buses)........sure hope you enjoy this little excursion through time through Hollywood....Los Angeles (proper).......and the general area.

For transit enthusiasts of the day, the "stars" were also those big vehicles than ran on rubber tires or steel rails.......enjoy! Wink

"NYO"

An elderly PE "Red Car" and a shining PCC pose for the camera alongside a veteran LAMCCo. "open topper" double decker........

Truly a classic view....a train of massive PE "Blimps" seems to soar above the rows of shiny MTA Old Looks....aaahhh, those were the days......

A real "ol' timey" view of PE's busy San Bernadino station.

A hulking box motor overshadows a "dinky" LARy FORD, while a sleek PE WHITE is seen in the background.........

As rugged and solid as the Old Look was, it seems a trifle small compared to a "Blimp", in this classic "nose-to-nose" view.......

*Note:

The "Blimps" originally came from the SP's East Bay "Red Electric" network, as well as the NWP's Marin County electric commuter lines.

PE's handsome Beverly Hills station, which also served buses.

PE riders from Hollywood could transfer here to buses that would bring them into Santa Monica.

Our favorite funny lady Carol Burnett, as a girl, would ride the "red streetcar" from Hollywood to this station on weekends, where her dad would meet her; they would then transfer to the bus into Santa Monica, where Carol would visit her dad and his mother.........

A PE YELLOW, sporting the later GM-style windshields.

Also note the classic "semaphore" traffic signal, so commonplace in countless old movies and cartoons.....

A truly classic "Hollywood" street scene; though no buses are present, this photo truly captures the "essence" of old Hollywood.......

Hill & 5th, circa 1949.

Note the new MACK that is just visible, trailing the elderly "Big Red Cars"......

In this wonderfully nostalgic street scene from 1962, we see a BRILL trolley bus trailing an Old Look......and check out that SHARP '58 Ford alongside....... Very Happy
