Thanks for the several clear photos of Westchester Surface Ways buses. The March 3, 1945, edition of the Mount Vernon Daily Argus includes a brief history of that company.
---
It began operation in 1936 with the Mundy Lane-Creek line, under the founder George W. Carson. "It also operates the Fleetwood and South Columbus Avenue routes." The 3.3.1945 article announces that Foye F. Staniford of Lawrence, Long Island, bought the company from Carson's widow. His is a retired president of Sales for Mack International.

My attempt to link to the article from the fultonhistory.com encountered horizontal space problems. Search fultonhistory.com for "Westchester Surface Ways"

Those five buses, numbered 45-49, were GM TDH-4512.

MY KIND OF BUS.......WHAT A BEAUTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very Happy

(would LOVE to have seen this baby in color!)

When I was in grade school, I remember ORANGE & BLACK operating MACKS similar to this one; they really caught the eye in that snappy paint!

Again, GOOD WORK........Wink

Back in the day, Avenue B & E. Broadway had some suburbans that they used on their runs to Roosevelt Raceway and Yonkers Raceway.

All:

Check out this 1964 photo of HEMPSTEAD BUS LINE's Mack #403.

What my eye caught are the windows; at least to me, the windows seem more like those found on ACF-BRILL C-44 suburbans.

Still a handsome classic, one that should have been spared the torch......

The windows on Hempstead Bus Mack 403 lift up, so the passenger can benefit from breezes. However, he might also put head or arms out and endanger himself. At some point, such a benefit became unavailable, and windows opened only at top. No, I am talking generally, not about this particular model.

This photo appears to be taken at Mid-Island Plaza. The route is now N48, paired with N49.

There are more differences, than just the type of sash installed...the one pictured above has different pier panels between the windows, also...

The Avenue B and East Broadway's version of the Hempstead Bus Mack, not in the best of conditions or a better location.

This is a Mack C-49-DM, ex-Schenectady Transportation.
