TARS Garden Ave. yard, depicting scrapping operations.

Note the old front-engined bus being scrapped along with the streetcars.....scenes such as this are quite sad......

For obvious reasons, these two vintage TARS views at Park Row were too good not to share here....... Wink

Webster & Fordham (undated)

Note the front-engined "parlor coach" on the left; image is to blurry to read any lettering.

Any clues as to what company?

Quite a bit of bus, streetcar, and taxicab activity in this nostalgic view of West Farms Square......

A rare color view from 1944 of TARS Garden Avenue yard; note the late 1930's TWIN COACH on the left (also, note "BUS STOP" sign)

Fordham Rd. & Arthur Avenue (1940's)

Any clue as to what company was running the antique on the left?

Sometime in the past three years, that photo looking west on Fordham Road at Arthur Avenue with a bus traveling east was the subject of several posts on this forum, after we lost Mr.Linsky. I think the consensus was that it was Fordham Transit or predecessor to Mamaroneck and beyond. Unfortunately, the Fordham Transit section of this excellent list begins with the 1946 Macks I rode from Valentine Avenue to Playland.
---
The catch that Mr. Linsky found was that this was a Bronx-based company giving Westchester service. He found the home office address somewhere west of Jerome Avenue, on Inwood Avenue, if my memory of the discussion is correct. The firm grew from Bronx-to-Catskills limo service.

N4:

I think I now recall (vaguely) that photo being discussed, quite awhile ago.

At first, I thought that bus MIGHT have been an ex-GREYHOUND, but then dismissed the thought.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many old transit/street scenes can generate great interest, decades after they were taken.

Thanks again....... Wink

"NYO"

BTW:

I hope someone might identify the carrier that operated that late 30's TWIN (23-R?), in the 1944 TARS photo, taken at the Garden Avenue yard.......

NYO
Did you notice my post regarding the VERSARE buses operated by ST?
Response to your question.
I never heard of Versare buses and never saw one even though I have seen St buses - Mack, Fageol TC and GM old look. It was interesting article.
WSTC had them from STS. The GM old looks were pretty beat up - almost falling apart.[/quote]

Yes, I did see your post regarding the VERSARE buses operated by ST.......thanks! Wink

As I had said earlier, to date, the ONLY photo of a VERSARE operated by ST I had ever seen was in the book on TARS, "ACROSS NEW YORK BY TROLLEY"; the bus was in the background, and the text said it was operating on Route #6 from Throgs Neck.

Outside of the photos/diagrams/etc. on the excellent "Coachbuilt" pages, photos of VARSARE buses virtually do not exist.

Somewhere, I am sure, are other photos of ST's VERSARE fleet.....I know we'd ALL be interested in seeing more photos of these ultra-rare (and most unusual!) buses....
