Remember the old JFK Express? ("The Train To The Plane")
In reality, it was the "train to the bus to the plane".....BUT, many eons ago, you COULD take a B&QT streetcar to the airport.....(!!)

As can be seen in the previous photo, while JFK never had (and still does not) have a direct rail link, La Guardia, at least, could, at one time, one time boast a streetcar connection......

In this photo, the venerable B&QT Peter Witt is clearly outnumbered by modern buses; look very closely, and you will just barely glimpse the front of a new MACK.......

Postwar "TWIN COACHES" were not at all plentiful in "Father Knickerbocker's" fleet; this photo from 1955 shows one of the Twin Coaches near the old 69th St. ferry in Bay Bridge.......

A snowy day in Brooklyn, once upon a yesterday (a careful eye will just be able to spot a few Twin Coaches in the background)............

Love the shots of old Brooklyn...I lived just a few blocks from the Williamsburg Bridge plaza, so am well familiar with those scene's, but not so much the Brooklyn Bridge. |

Great shot! Those American Airlines hangar's are incredibly still there...but I don't know for how much longer, with all that construction now going on...
What route was that? Any maps? |

Here is a photo of a QB Rys. trolley about to enter the underground Manhattan terminal; It looks as though the buses would have had used the same roadway as the trolleys to access the underground station's portal......

But only at the ends of the bridges, apparently...found this photo from your link, that clearly shows the outside trolley roadway was not paved for bus use...

Back in the day, Brooklyn had EVERYTHING a transit enthusiast could want, a complex plethora of subway and elevated lines, streetcars, trolley buses, buses, and ferryboats.
Into the 50's, you still had some streetcar lines (and of course the trolley buses) plus the old Fulton and Myrtle Avenue elevateds; and, of course the LIRR, which still serves Brooklyn today.
And, of course, "Dem Bums" were still playing at the hallowed Ebbetts Field (and the Kramdens and the Nortons were still residing on Chauncey St!)
Too, Coney Island still had its legendary Steeplechase, and the towering Parachute Jump was still in operation.
Old Looks, trolley buses, streetcars, Lo-V's, Hi-V's, Standards, Arnines, Bluebirds, Zephyrs, Multi-Sections, "C" units, MP-54's.......no wonder if I went back in time, I'd settle in Brooklyn.......

More great shots, thanks!
Do you happen to know if the route 58 ever ran all the way under wire to Main St. Flushing, or just as far as Maspeth? I can't recall ever seeing any bus or streetcar wires in Flushing, in the mid-fifties, at least.... |

Glad you liked the pics!
As to your inquiry, I have not the slightest idea, being a "Jersey Boy"!
I loved that one shot of the charted trolley coach crossing the LIRR grade crossing......LOVE those clunky-looking wire guides!!!!!!!!!!!
