Fifth Avenue Coach Lines, Inc. begins test service on an experimental air-conditioned bus with air suspension, numbered 3200. The bus, a 40-foot-long, 102-inch wide demonstration bus of GMC model TDH-5105 that is designated EXP-305, had originally been built as a TDH-5103 (serial #0001) in 1950, and its first test run was in Detroit for the Department of Street Railways in 1951; it also made the rounds in Washington, DC, which formed the basis for that city's first air-conditioned fleet (the wife of D.C. Transit owner O. Roy Chalk had also recommended that the paint scheme seen during its stint in New York, be applied to those first A/C units the nation's capital put into service). In its time in New York, 3200 plied such routes as 5 - Fifth Avenue-Riverside Drive and 15 - Jackson Heights; but its width fell in violation of New York laws of the time which prohibited such widths from its roads and streets, and the bus is then returned to GM and traveled in other parts of the country until it is sold, in 1958, to New Orleans Public Service, Inc., where (numbered 1967) it would remain in service well into the early 1970's.

Here is a picture of this unit outside at Columbus Circle:
