The New York City Omnibus Corporation's 146th Street depot (on the block of Lenox Avenue between 146th and 147th Streets) opens on this date. It was built beginning in 1938 on the grounds of an old New York Railways car barn which was deemed unsuitable for housing buses. In this form, it is able to house up to 275 buses (including double deckers). For much of NYCO's existence, the depot houses the 3 - Lexington Avenue, 4 - Lexington and Lenox Avenues, 7 - Broadway, Columbus and Lenox Avenues, 10 - Eighth Avenue-Central Park West and TB - Triborough Bridge lines. In later years it would be home (on and off) to M1, M2, M20 and Bx30. Since 1993, it has been known as the Mother Clara Hale depot.
