So even if you include those 34, 24 seat minibuses, the total is only 1,114?
A sad thing, indeed...when I worked for them, there were 6,000 buses in the fleet.
And Continental Trailways alone among the other NTBS companies had 2,300.. |

Not mentioned in their history, was the late sixties minibus they exported, the VHC-1 'Intercontinental'.
It was marketed as a 'Carey-VanHool', as Carey Transportation was the US distributor for them, much in the manner as ABC Bus is nowadays.
I believe it seated around 28 passenger's or so... |

When I worked at Penn Station,
I used to see that 2 axle model, parked in front of the GPO, across the street from Madison Square Garden, every time Jerry Garcia and the 'Grateful Dead' appeared. They were always parked in the same spot on Eighth Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets. They had a sign in the window that said: "First Aid".... |

That was the last place I also saw this unique bus parked, quite a few years ago.
The only other time I saw the bus was parked on Battery Place (I was still working in Lower Manhattan at the time)
Naturally, I did not have a camera with me at the time!
The first time I saw this bus, I literally did a double-take.....I was like "WHAAAAATTTTT??"
Just imagine that bus as a "SUPER-DUPER SCENICRUISER"!!!!!

The amount of buses in the current fleet also had me scratching my head; it did not seem possible that the fleet has so drastically dwindled during the last few decades.
6,000 buses....NO WONDER Greyhound went EVERYWHERE, and could operate multiple sections!
Ahhh, the grim facts of reality...........

Earlier, I mentioned traveling on DOMENICO's MCI's while on vacation (this was back in the early/mid 90's)
Any idea as to what companies those buses were sold to?
I still remember reading in the local papers at the time how the company just "closed up shop" literally overnight; vacation passengers found the Bayonne terminal locked and dark, and drivers could not get to their buses.
I never had a bad experience with DOMENICO; professional, personable drivers (with great senses of humor!), nice accomodations, and, of course, those big MCI's to whisk you from one spot to another.
I always thought that NJT might have purchased at least several, but I would guess that was a longshot.......

When this classic photo was snapped, back in the early 80's, GMC's still dominated the network of ramps leading in and out of the PABT.
The lone COMMUNITY Prevost "CHAMPION" indeed is the "odd one out" in this nostalgic rush hour view.........

Look again...that's not a 'Champion', it's an MC-7 "Challenger"... |
