Note, too, the once-commonplace phone booth and the colorful ad for "Ringling Brothers"........aaahhh, "Noo Yawk" nostalgia!

*Look closely here......you'll just be able to spot the front of a sharp CAREY 4106 in the background; also, check out that big "Dee-Troit" station wagon.......no SUV's, back then! |

Actually taken at 40th Street; where that Bohack once was, last I was in the area there was a Gristede's. The 41st block is in the background. |

The last A/C batwing 'Tee-Yay' bus (8202), a fixture of 126th Street ('MAN') depot for ages - and interestingly enough, built after the last such bus for MaBSTOA (8780, which was for years at 146th Street), here at Battery Place and Greenwich Street in 1972 . . .

W.B.:
Indeed, a "distinction" of sorts; the last A/C batwing "Tee-Yay" bus; at that time, I doubt that even the drivers and mechanics (as well as the daily riders) could even begin to think that transit buses could ever become more "futuristic" (at least, appearance-wise) than they already were.
Today, of course, we all take A/C as a given, both above and below ground.
Recall, back in the 60's, when new classes of subway cars were arriving, it was interesting that only some cars of an order had A/C, while others did not.
In recalling my many years as a straphanger, those old "Axiflow" fans in the SMEE car ceilings seemed to be forever unchangeable.......
