At the beginning it shows the 64 world's fair. There's a Greyhound new look that pulls up. Plus one of the Greyhound glide rides is also seen. |

I just happened to catch that film on TV, and they did a very good job of recapturing the essence of the Fair. If you looked for authenticity, Greyhound did not take people to the Fair on those "Grand Tour"sightseer's, they were only used within the Fair. Greyhound did not operate any shuttle services from the City to the Fair. The driver did appear to have a pretty close to authentic Greyhound At The World's Fair Corporation blue uniform with the gold necktie, different from the mainline grey uniform with blue tie. The driver announced: "Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, New York World's Fair...welcome to the future!"
The Corona name was added to the name of the park after the fair ended for political reasons.
That vehicle carrying the family of four, was an "Escorter", for private hire.
The "Glide-A-Ride", was a tractor pulling open air trailer's over several sightseeing routes.
They both had musical horn's that played the "Go-Greyhound" jingle.
Oh, another discrepancy, was I believe the sightseer in the film was a 35 footer, something that Greyhound did not have. It was also missing the World's Fair decals on its side.
But enough nit-picking...bottom line was I enjoyed the nostalgia it provided...
You know thinking back, I'm not sure if all Greyhound driver's wore that gold tie in 1964, in celebration of Greyhound's 50th golden anniversary... |
