The non-Midwest RTS's are dropping fast now - another 11 RTS's stored as of the February 7th update.

Forty of the MBTA's D40LF's are equipped with automatic passenger counting equipment - 0735-0754 and 0890-0909. Until recently, 36 of these buses were assigned to Cabot garage, but these have been transferred recently in order for the MBTA to perform passenger counts on routes at other rating stations. In exchange, Cabot has now received 36 non-counting equipped D40LF's. The moves made were:

0735, 0737-0740, 0742-0745, 0747-0750, 0752-0754 - Cabot to Charlestown
0600-0615 - Charlestown to Cabot

0890-0899 Cabot to Lynn
0820-0829 Lynn to Cabot

0900-0909 Cabot to Quincy
0810-0819 Quincy to Cabot

Update –

127 RTS buses remain in service at the end of 2009 – 111 of the Midwest rebuilds and 17 of the Everett rehab buses. Nine other Midwest RTS buses are in storage at Everett and may be repaired and returned to service in 2010 depending on funding availability and need.

The RTS fleet will definitely drop further in 2010 when the 25 New Flyer DE60LFR hybrids arrive.

Of the 400 ‘Zero series’ RTS’s purchased by the MBTA in 1994-96, 258 have now been removed from the active roster. Four of these remain on MBTA property - 0119 was converted to a Police Bus, and 0215, 0267 and 0291 were converted to work buses and equipped with trolley poles for sleet-scraper duties. 0082 was sold to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans to replace a Flyer D901 previously donated to the group in the 1990’s. The remainder have been sold for scrap.

Sadly, 0138 was one of 36 buses sold in November 2009 to Chuckran Auto Parts of Bridgewater MA – this bus was the last RTS built by TMC. Fortunately, the first Nova-built RTS bus (#0139) was one of the buses rebuilt by Midwest and is still in service at the Charlestown garage.

This one was parked in Crestwood, KY (an exburb of Louisville) back in September 2004. I assume it had been rehabbed somewhere far from Boston, and was enroute when the semi needed some repair.

Last place in the world I would expect to find an MBTA bus of any kind is on a side road several miles off of I-71 in the Louisville suburbs!

Looked pretty good stuffed and mounted like that...

Great shot! 0176 was one of 125 buses rehabbed by Midwest Bus in Owosso, MI.

Not sure what route the truck driver took from Michigan to Massachusetts to end up in Kentucky, though. Surprised

Why did Cabot drop the 0890s and 0900s for 0800-Series ones (0809-0830) between Quincy and Lynn anyway??

0890 to 0909 have automatic passenger counting devices installed, so these buses were used for a while on Cabot routes to collect passenger data and were then shifted to Lynn and Quincy to do the same on their routes.

But I thought the buses that had APC was 0735-0739,0742-0745 & 0747-0750, lastly 0752-0754 all had APC installed in them not 0890-0899 and 0900 to 0909??

There hasn't been much activity here I noticed...

Apparently I am not sure if Albany has now received the New Flyer D40LFs permanently, since 0757 (normally assigned to Quincy) was on the CT2 (which is an Albany route) back on Jan 21.

RTSPCC's page said that 0757 was assigned to Quincy as of Jan 20 (the day before I rode that particular bus), so is the 0757 assignment to Albany a temporary move?
