The first in a series of conversions of major avenues in Manhattan to one-way traffic over the next two decades, takes place with the conversion of Tenth and Amsterdam Avenues from 14th to 71st Streets to one-way northbound, and of Ninth and Columbus Avenues between 14th and 65th Streets to one-way southbound (this would be Phase I of a conversion process for these particular avenues that would be completed on Dec. 6, 1951). Changes to the following bus routes (all New York City Omnibus except where noted) are put into effect:
- 7 - Broadway, Columbus and Lenox Avenues: Northbound buses travel west on 55th Street to Eighth Avenue, then north on Eighth Avenue and Broadway to 65th Street
- 11 - Ninth and Amsterdam Avenues (Eighth Avenue Coach): North of 15th Street and Ninth Avenue, northbound buses travel west on 15th Street and then north on Tenth and Amsterdam Avenues to 71st Street
- 16 - 34th Street Crosstown: Eastbound buses originating from the West 42nd Street Ferry now travel south on Ninth Avenue to 34th Street
- M-105 - Tenth Avenue (Surface Transportation System): Buses moved to Eleventh and West End Avenues; northbound buses then run east on 68th Street and north on Amsterdam Avenue to 72nd Street where it transitions to Broadway, and southbound buses remain on Broadway to 69th Street where it travels west to West End Avenue.
In addition, some buses of the 14 - 14th Street Crosstown are moved westbound to 15th Street between Ninth and Eleventh Avenues, and eastbound to 16th Street between Tenth and Ninth Avenues.
