Not a radio station ad here, but, this placard WNEW TV special broadcast ad is worthy to include posting here, especially in its historical context (Jamaica Ave. & Queens Blvd, 1977)

I know...that IS strange, considering what a "hot" all-news station 1010 wins is!

I HAVE seen a pic somewhere on line, showing a Baltimore & Ohio train connection bus, taken in Manhattan (about 1958) with the 1010 WINS studio in smack-dab the background; that was way back when the station had not switched to all-news.......

Probably WBAI's advertising budget for the entire year.

Especially in 1978 where, everywhere else you turned, you saw ads blaring "New York WINS." You'd think at least one of their buses would've had that at least on the front . . .

W.B:

Now that I recall, when I started working in lower Manhattan in 1979, there were also "1010 WINS" ad cars inside PATH cars.

I even recall seeing ads on NJ buses, back in those days......

Wondering if any of these WINS ads were inside the NYC buses, if not outside?

But as for some ads missed, from the BusTalk Galleries . . .

1960s pic of bus with small ad for WVNJ near back . . .
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=383&pos=157
And a 'WVNJoy' ad from 1974:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=35&pos=344

A later WNEW 1130 ad on the side, from 1978:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=35&pos=90
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=267&pos=392

WTFM in its last few years as such, 1979:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=383&pos=198

A few WBLS 'batwings' ads:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=267&pos=12
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=267&pos=118

A WOR 710 ad from 1978:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=267&pos=304

More recent (1990) - look at the Hot 97 ad on the bus at left:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=35&pos=469

And some WABC . . .
A 1974 promo:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=35&pos=312
"The Big Ticket" promo from 1977:
http://gallery.bustalk.info/displayimage.php?album=35&pos=298
c.1979 "WABC Game" batwing in the back:

W.B:

GREAT pics!!!!!!!!!!! Wink Wink

Back in the early and mid-70's, I remember "WVNJ" (WV-ENJOY"!) ads inside TNJ buses, as well as outside.

As I had mentioned earlier, this was a very popular "easy listening" station (Newark); my parents and I always enjoyed listening to their great selections!

Going back to "77 WABC", IMHO, I truly believe that it was the most iconic "pop" station in the greater New York area, especially during the late 60's/early-mid 70's.........just their trademark jingle along was classic!

As I had mentioned previously, I still recall "1010 WINS" ad cards inside PATH cars back then.........

Back in the early/mid 80's, I also remember seeing a lot of "KISS" (FM) placards on MTA buses.......

Two things about this:
- The side roll sign indicating "2 MADISON AVE VIA 116 ST." Obviously unchanged since that bus was first put into service in 1965.
- The large blank space at right on the front roll sign - to cover "VIA 7 AVE." No doubt the short-lived Fifth-Madison-Lenox 2 would have said on SB routes, "2 TO 8 ST VIA LENOX."

W.B:

Great historical info; I find this sort of "Noo Yawk" historic bus "trivia" quite interesting! Wink

Roll signs....man, how commonplace they once were, on both the buses and the subways.......today, they are all highly-prized collector's items.....where have the years gotten to Question

Personally, I never thought that the day would come when roller signs would be relegated to memory and museums....... Sad
