I always like thinking about how many bus drivers, back in the day, listened to WABC over their transistor radios....must have been MORE than several....... Rolling Eyes

"NYO"

I wonder how many evening bus drivers got to listen to this famous Cousin Brucie jingle back in 1965?

Interesting. WABC was as much "New York" in the '60's and '70's as "All News, All the Time" 1010 WINS would be starting some two decades after.

Interesting your mention of 1010, WINS....they were actually the pre-eminent top 40 station in the dawn of the rock and roll age in the mid 50's...as a matter of fact, their DJ, Alan Freed coined the genre "rock and roll"...Freed, aka "Moondog, and later "Murray the K" (Murray Kaufman), ruled the air. Later WABC's Scott Muni, and "Cousin Brucie" Morrow, were the powerhouse station, and WINS went to its all news format.

One of WINS's deejays in the late '50's was a teenager named Mitch Lebe. Now, more recently, an eminence grise in broadcast journalism with a Hall of Fame career up and down the dial in NYC, he has rejoined the station as a news anchor, usually handling Saturday evenings at the top of the hour. He thus joins the likes of other DJ's of "Ten-Ten Wins" from its late '50's Top 40 heyday who later transitioned to the all-news format as reporters and/or anchors (all since passed) - Stan Z. Burns, Paul Sherman and Brad Phillips.
