Enjoy this photo of two chartered CAREY 4104's at Hoboken (1964); the event was an NMRA excursion on the freight only (and now long defunct) Hoboken Shore Railroad.
Enjoy!

To think, at the time that photo was snapped, my folks, older brother, and I (age 7!) lived only a few minutes away in Union City!
Hoboken has changed so much over the past several decades that it has become harder and harder to try to find any semblence of former rail activity, outside of the historic Lackawanna Terminal on Hudson Place.
HSR trains have been gone from Hoboken for over 40 years, now....and the old "WASHINGTON STREET" buses are also long gone (STILL operating 1930's antiques in the 1960's!)
Ahh, the good old days........

In Union City, NJ, where I was growing up in the 1960's, dozens upon dozens of chartered buses would park along Central Avenue (and even several side streets) for the then-popular "Veronica's Veil" Passion Play, during Lent.
When I was little, Mom and I would walk two blocks up from our apartment building to see the buses all lined up for blocks (back then, a TRUE bus museum, indeed...GMC, WHITE, MACK, ACF-BRILL.....you name it!!)
I'm willing to wager most (if not all) of the companies no longer exist, except, perhaps, for DE CAMP and LAKELAND; I do clearly remember seeing CAREY buses among the many others in attendance, well over 50 years ago.......

Remember the Continental Trailways storefront depot in Union City? At least one daily New York to Los Angeles Eagle would stop there, along with a few Philly and DC trips....must have been neat to see them there... |

Heck, I GREW UP seeing that old storefront station, MANY times!
I remember once Mom went in and asked of she could buy the articulated tin litho "SUPER EAGLE" in the front window for me; they couldn't sell it, but they did give Mom some timetables and a few other goodies for me, some of which I still have today!
Mom and I often boarded a PSNJ #16 or #17, just up the corner, near Bergenline, after Mom went shopping on Bergenline Avenue, well over a half-century ago!
Man, where did the years get to.......

Here is an ex-"ORANGE & BLACK" Fishbowl in 1981, just several doors down from the "TRAILWAYS" depot in Union City.
When we lived in Union City (until 1971), we were only 5-10 minutes away, via either a PS #16 or #17!
I'd sure like to have a dollar for every time I rode one of these old O&B workhorses........
