I found this ad (among other things) in an old Playboy or Oui magazine the location of the junk yard is not known and the buses are either TDH-5104s or TDH 5106. Sad sight (but the rest of the magazine was interesting, to say the least!

The Flxible ad is the cover from a Keene Farebox brochure. In 1980 #4160 was assigned to the East New York Depot

Love that Flx pic! Back when I was a kid in the late 60's, the B22 sometimes fell victim to street crime. I remember that a BO working the 22 was held up at knifepoint while driving, with the result that the bus made an uncharacteristically sharp swerve near Lafayette and Patchen Avenues in Bed Stuy. The News story caption read, "Holdup on The Robbery Avenue Line". The Plexiglas shields used today would have come in handy back in those days.

I see that was before all buses originally ordered by the private companies that were left over for MaBSTOA service all got repainted in the green colors associated with the respective "___ Look" buses after 1963. 3173 was one of the buses that entered service on November 1, 1960, and one of the 50 (3161-3210) allotted to Surface Transit Inc. originally. I presume this would've been on the M-106 route?

"HOLY BATWINGS, BATMAN!" Shocked Shocked Shocked

GREAT to see a (RARE!) nighttime "batwing" photo....we see TOO FEW of these dramatic views!

I used to love the batwings at night carried on the TNJ Fishbowls; they could REALLY brighten up a dreary, "Noo Joisey" evening! Wink

Regarding old ads in "Penthouse" and "Oui" magazines, I must admit, IMHO, that "BUS WORLD" magazine's centerfolds were much more "enticing", at least to Your's Truly's tastes! Wink

All kidding aside.....THINK about it......just how many photos have we've seen, showing "batwings" illuminated at night?

Not all that many, it would seem!

.......PERHAPS.......IF batwings were still in use today....MAYBE....just MAYBE.....would our present day oversized milk cartons, giant caterpillars, and monstrous dustbusters (you know, the vehicles that are called "BUSES" nowadays) have at least SOME appeal.....(!!) Rolling Eyes

The old saying goes:

"You don't know how good you had it until you no longer have it."

Regarding Fishbowls and batwings, truer words there can never be!
