Many of the older posters to this board remember when Detroit Diesel engines were the main power for all types of heavy duty buses, both transits and parlors, but today Cummins has become the leader in bus engines. Here is a look at what is on their menu today:

I was wondering about re-powering a Fishbowl bus with a new Cummins. I have heard that it is very expensive to make even a small change to the engine cradle. I do not know why. It would seem that a weld here and a cut there and you'd have a new engine that is viable for the current times. I'm also betting that the new engine would be lighter and smaller. I would bet a larger radiator would be the only other change needed.
