All:

What was the reason why FACCo management stopped ordering open top double deckers?

Was this a step towards eventually eliminating conductors, or a matter of safety/economics?

Was YELLOW no longer offering open top double deckers?

I know that the last new FACCo open-top buses were purchases about 1930.

Appreciate any info....thanks in advance.....

I have only sat in the closed tops at the Bus Festival. I would venture a guess that the buses lost capacity in rainy or wintry days

Hart Bus:

That does make a lot of sense with me; I would guess that only the hardiest folks would would dare to venture "upstairs" on an open-topper on an inclement day!

With a closed top double decker, there was no need to worry about lost capacity during rain or wintry weather.

Still, on a bright, brisk, spring day.....I am sure, from the stories I've heard and read......that few experiences could have compared with a ride on the upper deck of a FACCo open topper.......
