I'm not a fan of self-driving vehicles, especially after hearing the latest negative publicity about a fatal accident involving a self-driving Tesla. That said, it is not surprising that Daimler is in the "autonomous vehicle" mode again (they already have demonstrated an autonomous Freightliner concept truck earlier this year):

Personally, I can't imagine a self-driving bus meandering down 5th Avenue in Midtown anytime soon... |

Like it, or not, it's coming.
Statistically speaking, I would guess even the current state of the art is safer than human driver's overall, and with the benefit of actual experience, advances in technology will prove vastly superior to human driver's... |
