Another nostalgic scene from 1972; this photo is magnificently dated in so many ways......a colorful slice of "Old Noo Yawk"!

Also, note the roller curtain displayed.....

Now this is where I somehow regret being a country boy.
yeah I wish I could go back in time to ride these.
I been watching a lot of old shows and I see the old buses like those that are in the forums.

TheDriver:

Being a "city slicker" since Day One (way back in 1957!), living within a stone's throw of Manhattan, I was indeed more than fortunate to grow up surrounded by buses that would today only be found in museums, photos, or films.

The sheer variety of what was on the streets 50-odd years back was truly exciting, and made for some awesome bus-watching.

The sounds and smells of those wonderful old buses still permeate my memories today.....

In this wonderfully nostalgic 1972 scene, we see a PS/TNJ "Buffalo" #603A (signed for CAPE MAY) just outside the PABT.

Note the lot full of RED & TAN Fishbowls on the right, and that hulking GREYHOUND (MC-6?) trailing the "Buffalo".

Man, to be able to go back in time, if only for a day or two.....

Yes, NYO....that is indeed an MC-6 Supercruiser in that photo....probably coming from the garage on 11th Avenue, heading to The Port to load...a tall new building is now finishing construction on the site of the Red and Tan lot, but the church is still there....

traildriver:

Ironically, several years ago, we discovered that my late dad was christened at that same church, way back in 1907! Shocked

And to think of how many times I saw that magnificent gothic structure from the windows of a bus, from childhood into adulthood.....quite ironic!

Was hoping that the old R&T lot was still being used for bus storage....shucks! Mad

I'll tell you one thing......that photo is indeed one to bring a nostalgic smile to the face of every Fishbowl fan...and we ARE a LEGION, without a doubt! Wink

I'll certainly go back to 1972 anyday.........

Same location, same year; however, in this view, it's a DOMENICO Fishbowl posing front and center for the camera.....

This is #Z526m a 1968 GM T6M 5306. Photo taken in 1973.

Lower photo is #W 608, a 1965 PD 4106.

Jimmy:

The Fishbowl picture is also at nycsubway.org; it is on the Summit Avenue bridge crossing the PATH (old H&M) and Penn Central tracks, near the old PS terminal on Sip Avenue, just off Journal Square.

I sometimes rode the #124 line from JSQ to have dinner at my late brother's in North Bergen after work, if I were lucky enough to make a connection.

Usually, I took the NHBL's #1.

Have not seen that 4106 photo in ages; man, those GM "Highway Coaches" were lookers!! Wink

And the sound of their engines at full cry on Turpike or Parkway runs........aaaahh, what sweet symphonies, indeed! Very Happy

Again, yet another classic, timeless scene that far too many of us took for granted, back in the day.....

The 4106's were a pleasure to drive. When Lebanon Bus sold it's last 4104 to some guy down south, the guy called the next day to complain that the power steering didn't work. We had to explain that it never had power steering.

Agreed! I've mentioned it many times on this board, that the '06 was my all-time favorite bus to drive....including anything currently being built.

The 4104 you mentioned did not have power steering, but it was available as a factory option....ours all had it.

About 30 years ago I drove transit bus for County Of Lebanon Transit and charter bus for Lebanon Bus Co. My transit route at that time was a suburban run that went about 18 or so miles out of the city,to near Hershey. Well, COLT ended up with a bus shortage, so they leased a 4106 from Lebanon Bus and put it on my run. I ended up using an 06 on a transit run for about 3 months. A driver I knew from Capital Trailways had a tripper every afternoon that ran from Palmyra to Harrisburg, mostly for Hershey workers. His run started from the same shopping center as my layover spot. He checked out the 4106 I was using and the next day borrowed a restored 06 from Capital Trailways collection to use on his run. Just wanted to show it to me.
