The New York Transit Museum sponsored a tour of the new Mother Clara Hale bus depot in Harlem on February 7, 2015. This is a state of the art, environmentally friendly building, replacing the original structure, built in 1890 as the 146th Street and Lenox Avenue trolley barn, and later modified for bus operation. The new depot, which opened in November 2014, is a three story, 400,000 square foot structure, housing about 128 buses. The building also features a 2,500 square foot mosaic on the front facade, created by a local artist with participation of local schoolchildren as well.
The tour also included a ride to the facility from the transit museum on board vintage bus 3100.
Here are some pictures from the visit.

Bill D,
I would call this a 'Grand Tour' to which I add my thanks to you for sharing.
It's great to know that New York is in right at the top when it comes to caring for their buses!
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

You're welcome Jim and Mr. L!
The New York Transit Museum presents some very interesting tours and programs, which attract a wide cross section of participants. It is well worth it for anyone who is close enough to the city to take part. (You should come back this way Mr. L!)
