Back in the 1950's, DE CAMP also operated 'second-hand" buses.

In 1953, DE CAMP took over the operations of the now long-forgotten ATLANTIC TRANSPORTATION COMPANY ("GARDEN STATE LINES"); in doing so, the company inherited 17 ACF-Brills and WHITES.

At one time, there was a website called btco.com (or something like that) that had a lot of history on the Baltimore Transit Co. Don't know if it's still around, though.

As for Philadelphia, back in the March, 1969 issue of Motor Coach Age, there was a Philly roster and some of the second-hand GM's may appear on there.

Yes, that was the site I had mentioned earlier; in fact, I was a member of the BTCo forum for many years.

Sadly, the board simply disappeared a few years ago, and has never returned.

As noted before, when the site went offline, so did the exhaustive BTC vehicle histories and galleries.

A great loss to any and all historic-minded bus (and streetcar) enthusiasts......

More on "MOUNTAIN COACHES" #144 ("TRACKLESS TRANSIT"):

"........new and second hand New Look GM's were added to the roster throughout the 1960's......." (source: MOTOR COACH AGE)

I had already mentioned that, earlier on, the company had also purchased ex-NYCTA TDH-4507's.

I am curious as to where the second-hand New Looks came from......could these have been ex-NYCTA units as well?

*Also, in 1947, PSNJ purchased 17 ACF-Brill C-44 suburban coaches; these were the only ACF-Brills purchased by PSNJ.

The coaches did not last long in PSNJ's GM-dominated fleet; I am guessing that some other northern NJ operator(s) purchased them......

Speaking of second-hand buses (and, recalling again, the once-noteworthy WASHINGTON STREET LINES in Hoboken), I seem to recall a number of buses (I am pretty sure these were Fishbowls) in Hoboken back in the early 80's which I had been told were to run on Washington St.

I do not know how true this was, but I cannot recall any of these going into service on Washington Street.

I just vaguely remember that these coaches were from some company in Westchester, but cannot recall more than that.....

If I am not mistaken, a few years back, didn't you share a photo of a 1930's MACK, that was still running on the Washington Street line back in the 60's?

I remember being totally blown away when I saw that bus, as I can recall riding it with Mom well over 50 years ago (I STILL remember what a noisy old relic it was.....the way a bus is SUPPOSED to sound!) Wink

Hard to believe that the last time I rode an Old Look in revenue service was in 1986, nearly 30 years ago!

Except for a very short run in which I had to move an ex L.A. 4801 from a back lot to the set of the movie 'The Shadow' back in the 90's, the last time I rode in an Old Look in revenue service was in 1961 - and I was collecting the revenue!

In 1961, just waiting to start school, i was already a well-seasoned "bus guy" (especially with Old looks!) and would be riding them just about every chance I got until the very last disappeared from my area in 1986! Very Happy

There is a circa-early 70's scene in a 'home movie" bus video sent to me by a fellow bus buff in California (he was a bus operator from San Diego) nearly 20 years ago; this outstanding tape features home movies of buses in California (mostly in the LA area) from the late 40's through the mid-70's.

Talk about VARIETY!!!!!!!!

Anyway, there was one scene (from the looks of the autos on the highway, it appears this footage dated to the early 70's) showing a long line of SCENICRUISERS and 4104's on some sort of charter.

I think that the name of the company was "PACIFIC" and was a charter company; here is yet another example of retired coaches going on to live new lives, after they were sold off by their original operators......

The first two second-hand SCENICRUISERS "debuted" in 1968; these buses were sold to MICHAUD of Boston.

They became #'s 181 and 182 on the MICHAUD roster.....

Roy, sad to say btco.com is gone. That is where I first met up with NYO2629 as he did some of his finest work there. Also, PCC 7407 pictured in his Baltimore post is alive and well at the Baltimore Streetcar Museum where I am a member. I operated it at members day just two weeks ago.
