Appearently, NICE bus has just issued an RFP for new 43 new CNG buses to be awarded to the lowest bidder (oh boy....). First off, why only 43 new buses? NICE has about 75 2000 Orion V CNGs left in service, what can 43 new buses do? Idiots... Mad

Why only 43? Well since Orion is out, you get a small amount of something, not a fleet of what did we get ourselves into.

What can 43 new buses do? Replace 43 buses needing replacement sooner then later, or replace less and add spares. Maybe fleet expansion is where this is going.

As far as the idiots part, if you can run Nassau better, run for County Executive next election.

Presumably, only 43 buses at being ordered at this time because that is all the funding that the county has received. The federal government doesn't automatically award money for new buses when old buses reach 12 years of age.

How was it that the MTA LI bus could order much larger orders in 2009, then before that, 2000, 1997, 1989-1992, etc?

There is a plan to buy additional buses for NICE. The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) has the following projects listed in their 2014-2018 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP):

Project #082565 - PURCHASE 43 REPLACEMENT CNG 40' BUSES, INSPECTION SERVICES & SPARE PARTS (this is the current order)

Project #082595 - PURCHASE 70 CNG 40' REPLACEMENT BUSES, INSPECTION SERVICES & SPARE PARTS (funding allocated between 2014 and 2019)

Project #082904 - PURCHASE 103 CNG 40' BUSES, INSPECTION SERVICES (100 replacement buses, 3 expansion buses; funding allocated between 2018 and 2019)

What? By 2018, the oldest buses would be the 2008-2009 Orion VII NG CNGs! They can't replace those, most won't even bee 10 years older unless they transfer those to MTA bus.

Now there is something that won't happen. All NICE buses are owned by Nassau County. The only thing tying the two together is the MetroCard. If NICE did not accept MetroCard, then NICE buses would have different fareboxes.

The funding may be carried over until the 1700's hit 12 years of age.

I'm pretty sure that the 1700s and 1800s can all make it pass 12 years of age. Just look at NYCT's 7560-7819. Those buses are mostly 9, 10, and 11 years old and are still pretty solid for the most part. I'd just add service increase buses if I were NICE.

I think this next order is going to kill off the remaining #1500 CNGs.
