In the 1940's and 1950's, I was vaguely aware of the County Transportation Company buses, painted blue, similar to the Connecticut Company, but operating in Westchester County. The company appears on S-60's Vintage Westchester County magnificent roster. I am quite certain its routes did not reach Yonkers.
---
Now, I have come across a NY Times article dated November 15, 1957. In Albany on 11.14.1957, the NY Public Service Commission authorized the County Transportation Company, Inc., to suspend service after December 31. The company operated nine routes in Westchester County. It was owned by the New Haven Railroad, as I suspected.
---
The hearing examiner reported that only Route E, from New Rochelle to Stamford, was economically feasible. West-Fordham Transportation Co. had applied to take over some routes.
---
The original franchise was that of the New York and Stamford Railway Co., which gave up trolley service about 1927.
---
The East Haven trolley museum prominently displays the departure board from the New Rochelle trolley station:
---
Now I'm looking for a photo of a blue County Transportation Company bus.

Thank you, Mr. Linsky.

On that departure board, I think the top five routes were TARS routes taken over by Westchester Street Transportation Co. pre-war Twins, as you have posted photos on other threads. Of course, the SUBWAY departure was for TARS trolley route A to 241st & White Plains Road, which I rode in the late 1940's.. The bottom item, a departure for STAMFORD was an 18-mile trip that became County Transportation Company bus about 1927.
---
Thanks.
Joe

Please see the attached photo. County had several local routes in Port
Chester local streets & Glenville Ct. where this was taken. It was the last
day of December 1957. Several more pictures are on this forum of County.
I can supply more info if interested.
