There is something both haunting and historic about this timeless 1973 photo of MABSTOA New Look #4705, laying over at the old Yankee Stadium.

Once can almost feel the aura of greatness past here....."The Bambino", Lou Gherig, "Joltin' Joe", "The Mick", Yogi Berra......the aura of past greatness runs strong here.

When this photo was snapped over 40 years ago, one could not conceieve of a day when both New Looks and the old Yankee Stadium would vanish forever down the echoing corridors of time.

Note, too, the cigarette ad on the side of the bus......this, also, further dates this classic 70's image.

The past several decades have wrought great changes......

In another haunting "Lost New York" scene from the 70's, we see Fishbowl #6456 rolling along past the now-useless steel columns, that, until the previous year, had supported the sinewy tracks of the old 3rd Avenue El.

All service on the Bronx portion of the venerable 3rd Avenue line ended in 1973, and, before long, cutting torches, cranes, and demolition crews swarmed over the steel carcass of the old El, removing it bit by bit.

Fishbowls.....the 3rd Avenue El......both long gone from the streets of the Bronx......

It's a bright, sunny day in Brooklyn (Fulton & Pearl, 1972), but the veteran Old Look is nearing the end of its long and faithful career of providing safe and dependable service to the traveling public.....

Hillside Avenue & Merrick Blvd (1970)

I always thought that the stylish "New York Transit Authority" script above the windows gave the Old Looks a distinct touch of class!

Though no prices are seen displayed here, I'm will to wager that the GULF gasoline dispensed at that old corner service station was a good deal cheaper than what you would pay today.....
