The vintage "two lighter" traffic signal seen here adds as much charm and nostalgia to this quiet 1972 scene (Ave. J & Bedford) as does the Fishbowl.

Where have 42 years gone.......?

Fondly recalling those not-so-very-long-ago days when ALEXANDER'S and New Looks were still an everyday part of the colorful, durable fabric that made up Big Apple (at least good ol' "WCBS ALL-NEWS 88" us still with us!)

The huge "NATIONAL AIRLINES" sign alone dates this "seems like it was only yesterday" photo at JFK, taken in 1980.

Air travel was certainly a lot more civilized, back in the day!

Today....NATIONAL....like the New Look awaiting passengers......are now chapters in transport history......

A now-redundant BMT El pillar stands silent watch over New Look #4619 at Parsons & Jamaica, 1980.

The classic "DON'T WALK" sign, now a part of City history itself, adds a sense of timelessness to this old street scene.....

Man, you cannot ask for more "classic" DIVERSITY in this awesome lineup of vintage buses! Shocked

I know that i have recently seen this picture on the 'net. Might even have been elsewhere on this board. i, too don't know the location, but I think the temple that the buses are parked in front of may be a clue.

I have to wonder if the Community Coach with the "School Bus" destination sign belongs to the company that services parts of the Hassidic Community in Brooklyn since that could also be a lead.

I am discounting the old painted sign on the wall of the building, because that doesn't necessarily mean that the store is on that street.

Like the Fishbowl, the once ever-present Checker cabs have now vanished from the bustling streets of Gotham (5th Avenue & 84th, 1973)

Hart Bus:

All good observations; I only wish more info was given with this great old photo.

Perhaps someone else here will be able to tell us for sure.....

*BTW:

I know I posted the link to this same photo elsewhere on this board, awhile back......just cannot recall which thread!

A beautiful vintage view for bus enthusiasts and rapid transit buffs alike; here at Willets & 148th, Fishbowl #6578 is making its appointed rounds, while, up above, we see a work train with a 1920's vintage BMT signal dolly in charge.

The huge WINSTON cigarette billboard also serves as a sign of the times....

1982........Fishbowls were still the backbone of the MTA fleet.....MAY's was still in business....."Sugar Babies" was a hit on Broadway.....and cigarette ads were still displayed in public......

By 1982, the famed "S. KLEIN ON THE SQUARE" had served its last customer, and sat abandoned and derelict, its huge electric sign a silent reminder of better times.

"EVITA" was on Broadway back then, and "Batwing" buses were still commonplace, everyday sights in "Noo Yawk"......

GREEN BUS LINES Fishbowls......like the company itself.....has since vanished into the pages of time, as have cigarette ads such as #834 carries.

Date this view to 1976......
