This just in! As of late last week, MTA bus no longer uses Orion V CNGs. The last ones was just sent to Eastchester depot last Friday. The only Orion V CNGs left in service (for now) are NICE's 2000 and 2004 Orion V CNGs.

Also, as a side note, the last NYCT 1996 Orion V diesel #1306 (formerly #647) is now also retired as of late April. However, this bus is being saved as a Museum bus. That's right, a second Orion V is being saved!

I believe the last Orion V CNG in service was #9849.

I believe this bus is still in service, but may be held as a spare.

This is sad news. Now the entire batch of formerly NYCDOT-owned buses is no more.

The 6 MCI DL-3's that NYBS had are still around. Those will be the last of NYCDOT buses.

And after 2015, that'll be it for those buses as well for MTA bus is suppose to get new OTR coach buses soon.

I'm just surprised that they out lasted the 1998-2000 New Flyer C40LF CNGs. Well, the Orion V CNG era may be over for the MTA, but NICE still have plenty of Orion V CNGs left. Get them while you can, because after 2017, the Orion V CNGs will really be a thing of the past in the NYC Metro.

Hard to believe the Orion V CNGs are "historical buses" already Shocked
Seems like only yesterday they came down from CP, signed as Q65A, plying Jewel Avenue in white/orange QSC livery...
Now it's called the Q64, the buses are white and blue, and they're coming "uptown" from BP, of all places; makes an old QTC/QSC fan shake his (greying) head.

The Queens Surface/Command Orion V CNG buses were from 1999-15 years old. I think they were due for retirement. MTA Bus retired Queens Surface last RTS's prematurely (8 years old). I do not know why.

These would have 1994 TMC RTS's. MTA Bus took over QSC in February 2005 and renumbered them 9700's. These buses were sent to other MTABC garages. Hybrids came in 2007 which made the final push of older equipment. They actually lasted 12 years.

Wrong, the last 9700s were retired in Summer 2010. You are thinking of Queens Surface's 1984-85 GMC RTS's. The last of those buses retired in 2001 if I remember correctly.

Who is wrong? NorthShore said MTA which would be the TMC's. GMC's were already cut up except 37. Any way you look at it both the GMC and TCM RTS's made it past 12 years. And the push out of older equipment wasn't just PBL, it was the 8000 repowers as well.

Yes, but #8000-8396 made it to about 19-20 years.

The Orion VIIs started to arrive towards the end of 2005.
