Gentlemen:

In this photo from 1971. we see IND R-7 #1440 leading a fantrip special at Fresh Pond Road; note that the Fishbowls seen here appear to be in much better shape than when viewed in later photos ( a few of the bus numbers can also be seen here)

In fact, these buses almost seem ready to pull out for thier runs with the tolling of the next rush hour......

Lead car #1440 is now in residence at the Seashore Trolley museum in Kennebunc Maine

That's sure quite a distance from the Eighth Avenue line!

Just glad that historic car was spared the terrible fate that felled most of its fellow fleet members!

1440 has been retired in MAINE since 1990. #800 has been there since 1989.

Last time I rode any of the prewar IND cars was on the old "CC", back in 1975.

Back then, the "CC" was a rush-hour only service, terminating at HUDSON TERMINAL (WTC)

Sure miss those prewar subway sounds of growling gears and thumping compressors!

BTW:

Do you have any info on those OOS Fishbowls at Fresh Pond?

I'm curious as to when they were retired and when the last of them were removed from the property.....thanks!

Funny titile, NYO.. Laughing

Trailways of New England Eagle's were a common sight in that era, as all but one schedule a day used that route coming to the PABT from the GWBBT.

traildriver:

Actually, I thought it a good title for a classic John Wayne war flick! Wink

I'm sure many today do not recall the days when the GWB terminal hosted long-distance coaches, as well as suburban bus lines.

So much has changed over the past several decades.....
