Many times, the "bit players" seen in the background of vintage street scenes are just as interesting as the "main photo subject", as seen here.....

Another long ago "Gee, that's a nice-looking bus in the background!" TARS photo, taken quite a distance from Park Row......

Today, the "modern" TWIN COACH in the background would be regarded every bit as antiquated as the colorful streetcar in the foreground.....

Fordham Rd. & Arthur Avenue, 1940's.
It would be interesting to find out more about that beautiful front-engined relic coming towards the camera.
I very much doubt that the fellow who snapped this picture so many decades ago truly realized the historical significance that photos like his would one day achieve......

NYO,
Unfortunately, the photo is of extremely poor quality but what I can say is that the bus has a White Motor Company chassis modeled probably as a 54A and that the body, which might be Bender of Cleveland, is Intercity in design.
Sorry, but that's about it.
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

Mr. "L"
You are correct; there is not much to go in in this photo; from what I could see of the paint on the side, at first I thought it MIGHT be an ex-GREYHOUND unit; however, the split destination sign was a sure sign that this bus did not have a GREYHOUND "pedigree".
As the photographer was clearly only there to capture the TARS streetcar on film, I think it is safe to say that he was not at all interested in the bus that just happened to be heading towards his camera at the same time, and, therefore, would not have even thought of taking any "notes"......

NYO,
Here's an interesting shot taken in Long Island City about a year before the end of Queensborough Bridge trolley service.
Of note (far right of frame) is a Triboro Coach TDH 4509 (too far away to discern a fleet number).
Enjoy.
Photo courtesy of 'bk.sales' and is available at eBay as item # 390575111141.
Regards,
Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":
As usual, another winner!
Vintage "Noo Yawk" street scenes such as this really get me all fired up to see if Mr. Peabody will lend me his "Wayback Machine"........
