The "modern" MABSTOA lettering emblazoned on the flanks of ancient FACC #303 indeed makes for an interesting contrast in this undated photo......

Looks like an "excursion" of sorts is going on.......

In the first picture, the bus looks like a Paris BrilliƩ-Schneider double decker.

Agreed; this early type of Fifth Avenue bus indeed had a "Parisian" look to it......the early De Dions with Brill bodies at once gave a "Continental" flair to swank Fifth Avenue........

The eBay vendor that is selling the attachment calls it 'bizarre' and that it is to say the least.

No information is given as to time, location or date of photo or to even what country this hideous race took place in (but the buses do look British to me).

What I really love are the idiots that are sitting on the open decks as though they're just out for a ride.

One thing I will say though is that these races must have been very popular as evidenced by the roaring crowd in the stands!

Photo courtesy of 'photo-phinish' and is available at eBay as item # 181363142486.

Mr. "L":
LOOK OUT NASCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What in the name of ****?!?!?! Shocked Shocked Shocked

NOW I have truly seen EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!! Shocked Shocked

Prior to seeing this, the most bizzare thing I'd ever seen, relating to an old double-decker, was the climatic finish to an early 40's Laurel & Hardy flick, where Ollie, sans Stan, finds himself atop a runaway LA open-topper, which finds its way onto a roller coaster! Rolling Eyes

Once on the coaster, of course, a miniture model of the bus was used.

Aaaahh, the magic of classic Hollywood! Wink

NYO,

I don't remember exactly what movie it was in, except to say that it might have been one of the many James Bond thrillers, that 007 and his lady friend have escaped their captors and are racing through back roads in a dark green colored British double decker (probably a Leyland) when they approach a low overpass at speed and as they pass under it the entire top of the bus is ripped off and left intact on the road behind them.

That was funny! - almost a Three Stooges gang!

Regards,

Mr. 'L'

Ahhh, classic Bond adventures! Very Happy

Yep, you're on the right track, my friend! Smile

"LIVE AND LET DIE" was the Bond film you were thinking of; I think you will enjoy the photos on this page! Wink

They removed the top deck and rigged it with ball bearings to slide off. A London Transport driving instructor did the driving for all the bus stunts.

Normally a big "oops" that would be reported in the papers if it was real and not a movie stunt. Reminds me of what happened (for real) to a Leisure Lines (NJ) doubledecker several years ago as he was heading to start an Atlantic City run and was reminded that he was driving a two story bus buy a RR trestle. Luckily no injuries since the bus was empty. Don't remember if the driver still had a job.

WCA:

Now that things are slowing down from Tax Season, I had a chance to look carefully at the picture. I agree its weird, but is it real? I'm not sure. My reaction from a re-viewing tonight is that it could be an artist's interpetation or drawing. I don't think its a photograph because the images are not crisp enough to make out any marking and the track doesn't appear to be made out of either dirt, asphalt or concrete.

I may be wrong but that's my 2 cents about it.

Hart Bus:

Yes, I now recall that accident....I had totally forgotten about it.

It could have been truly tragic if passengers had been aboard.

Indeed, there is a WORLD of difference between the real world and Hollywood special effects.....
