Gentlemen:

For decades after WW2, "Noo Yawk" was a major GM stronghold; Macks were commonplace, of course, but their numbers were but a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands of GM's that then plied the streets.

Whites were even more in the minority.

When I hear mention of a postwar TWIN COACH, first and foremost, Chicago comes to mind; IMHO, they were indeed THE "Chicago Bus".

In my nearly 60 years, I've only seen several postwar TWINS; one I saw in late 1974 in Manhattan, obviously being used to transport dry cleaning or garments for sale; looking through the windows, I could see that the overhead standee hand bars were being used as clothes rods (ingenious!)

When visiting a friend back in 1978, I saw several (all sporting the same color scheme, along with some Old Looks and trolley buses) sitting out in an open field at a Midwestern electric railway museum.

Gowing up in the 60's, I never saw them in NJ; only seeing them in photos or movies......to me, the seemed quite exotic!

Toy versions of these now-historic buses were once available during the 50's, and are today collector's items (I have several in my collection today)

Follwing are links to 1950's-era photos showing the rare TWINS in service in "Noo Yawk"......enjoy!

"NYO"

A nostalgic color shot of TWIN #194, near the old 69th St. Ferry terminal in 1955 (the ferry, which I clearly remember growing up, shut down in late 1964, when the VZ Bridge opened).....

This photo sadly seems to document a very early demise for these handsome buses.....

The classic TWIN, the dapper driver behind the wheel of his noble charge, the stylish lady waiting to board, and the laundry dangling from the clotheslines, all serve to date this wonderfully nostalgic scene......

An impressive TWIN lineup on Vanderbilt Ave. (looks to be some sort of event taking place at the church.....folks sure DRESSED UP, back in the day!).

Also note streetcar tracks and overhead wires.......
