NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,
It must be about five years or so ago that I took the attachment in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
There is no fleet # visible and I made no notes at the time but am wondering if it might be the same bus as is in your picture?
Regards,
Mr. 'L'

Mr."L":
Yet again, another super pic.....thanks for sharing!
It MIGHT be the same bus as is seen in the photo you posted; nonetheless, it is a photo one seldom sees....one focusing on a bus being used by the police force.
Indeed, they do proudly serve.......

As our favorite bus driver Ralph Kramden would say "one of these days" I will dig out and post two pictures of a NYPD Fishbowl marked as Fleet 3301 assigned to the Queens Highway Patrol on the GCP around 188th Street. It was ex-TCC 743. I also "picked" a picture off the internet of that bus after it was sold to some Hassidic Group that ran it into the ground. |

Hart Bus:
Looking foward to see those two pics!
I think I know that ex-TCC Fishbowl you mentioned; I recall it being quite grimy (filthy would be a better word for it!) passing by the now-departed WTC around 9AM on the weekdays.
I can remember being able to see traces of the outlines of some of the old TTC lettering, beneath the grime.
I might be mistaken, but I think that Monsey Trails was the company then running that bus.
Funny, before you mentioned it, I had not thought of that bus in ages.....but I still remember it well.
If the company was Monsey, I can remember them running older, second/third hand equipment, through the 1990's........

Hart Bus:
Was just doing some more research and I was lucky enough to come across this sharp picture of MTA Transit Police Fishbowl #3000, seen here at Battery Place, back in '78.
Certainly a classic well worth modeling!

Oh fellas,
Anybody happen to mention the old Motor Cycle 3 (Grand Central Parkway)?
Enjoy,
Mr. 'L'

Mr. "L":
Though that classic vintage photo is certainly not bus-oriented, it is indeed a rare glimpse of a long-ago era!
You can almost feel the pride that dapper officer is feeling, standing alongside his smart-looking auto!
Thanks for sharing.....

NEW YORK OMNIBUS 2629,
It certainly is bus related but, then again, how could you have known?
In those days, no buses were permitted on the Grand Central Parkway and the cop in the photo might just be waiting to catch one!
I mean, you'd have to have known these 'elite' squads in the five boroughs - there was no fooling around with these guys!
BTW; if the officer in the photo was Davis Taylor (badge # 18565) then my father sewed his fingers back on his hand after a buzz saw accident.
Officer Taylor was so grateful to my pop and four other surgeons that assisted in the operation, that he had five sterling silver miniature badges in the likeness of his own made for them as gifts - I have carried my father's in my wallet for the last 55 years!
Regards,
Mr. 'L' |

Mr. "L"
Once again, you show yourself as an outstanding source of New York trivia and historical facts, transit-oriented or otherwise!
Officer Taylor was indeed blessed to have skilled men such as your Dad on hand to sew his fingers back on!
I didn't think that buses were permitted on the Grand Central in those days; if I'm not mistaken, Robert Moses made sure that his underpasses were of such clearance that buses with "city folks", seeking relief at the beach, were not able to pass through.....but that's another story!
Getting back to the RTS, the type was commonplace up here, running on NJT's (originally ACADEMY's) #22 HILLSIDE.
Several years ago, NJT saw fit to cut the line back to the point where it no longer serves my community.
Too, "Shorty" RTS buses were used some years back on the #751 (which also serves my town); this used to be the old B-1, dating back to TNJ days.
These days, NABI's do the honors; Flex New Looks were a staple on this route for a number of years as well......at least I took a few pics before they were retired!
The years truly are fleeting....especially in our hobby.....
